Ashton Kutcher, of both Hollywood and Silicon Valley fame, has many thoughts on artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Kutcher Knows Technology

There was a time when Kutcher was known primarily for his work on the big screen. That's no longer the case, as he's also the founder of Sound Ventures, a VC firm that has backed companies such as Airbnb Inc., Skype and Uber Technologies Inc.

“If you’re a company, and you’re sleeping on this, you’re probably going to be out of business,” Kutcher said at the conference. “It’s that good and that powerful from a utilization standpoint.”

Kutcher’s perspective on artificial intelligence moves to the forefront during a time of the rapid growth of generative AI technologies. For example, in just two months following its release in November 2023, ChatGPT amassed a user base exceeding 100 million.

Not only has ChatGPT motivated people to employ AI assistants for enhancing efficiency and simplifying their lives, but countless users have leveraged it to establish their own enterprises.

Kutcher sees AI technology disrupting various industries, such as education.

“The ability to have an always-on tutor that is personalized to you is an extraordinary advantage,” he added. “We’re going to have students and kids and people across the world that are going to be able to use this to learn about something in a way that they’ve never learned about it before.”

Kutcher Puts His Money Where His Mouth Is

A lot of people are talking up the benefits of AI but are sitting back and waiting to see what happens next. Kutcher is taking a different approach through his venture capital firm.

Sound Ventures recently launched a $240 million AI fund that invested in companies including OpenAI and Stability AI. While no one can predict the future of AI, Kutcher is bullish and said that his firm will continue to support AI startups.
