However, the decline in down payments is not uniform across all regions. While Florida cities like Palm Bay, Ocala, and Naples have seen notable declines, other regions in the country, particularly in states like California, are experiencing different trends. For instance, California markets like Oxnard-Thousand Oaks-Ventura have seen buyers put down as much as 24.5% of the purchase price, reflecting the high cost of homes and the substantial incomes of buyers in those areas.
Down payments for second homes and investment properties typically require even larger percentages, Realtor.com noted, around 27.9% and 27.3% respectively, compared to primary residences. The trend of high down payments — despite the overall decrease in some areas — stems from a combination of pandemic-era savings and the motivation provided by high mortgage rates which encourage buyers to make larger down payments, thereby reducing their loan amount and the total interest paid over the loan's life span. In the first quarter of this year, down payments decreased compared to the third quarter of 2023, both as a percentage of the purchase price and as a dollar amount. However, down payments increased year-over-year from the third quarter of 2023 to the first quarter of 2024, which suggests that down payments may continue to climb and could reach a new peak later this year, according to the report.
With rising borrowing costs deterring potential homebuyers from entering the market, those who remain are likely to be financially better prepared and capable of making larger down payments, Realtor.com noted.

In Benzinga&#8217;s recent <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/events/">Sports Betting, Gaming &amp; Esports: A Deep Dive virtual event</a>, Chad Beynon, head of U.S. research and sell-side equity analyst at Macquarie, discussed how in-play betting is transforming the sports betting industry. Beynon explored how this real-time wagering option changes fan engagement and the broader market.

Beynon described in-play betting as a major driver of the sports betting industry&#8217;s rapid progress. Despite advancements, regulatory challenges remain a significant hurdle. Beynon stressed the importance of clear regulations in shaping the market. "The way that licensing works in the U.S. kind of restricts the number of players," he said. Regulatory clarity and expanding legal sports betting states could further propel the industry forward.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Potential Of Esports Betting</h3>
Beynon also explored the untapped potential of esports within the betting landscape. As esports gains popularity, integrating it with traditional sports betting platforms presents new opportunities. "We&#8217;ve seen fits and starts with esports, particularly here in the United States," Beynon noted. "I think the restrictions right now are obviously highly skewed towards younger audiences." As the audience for esports continues to grow, its betting market could expand significantly.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Opportunities And Challenges</h3>
Beynon is optimistic about the future, especially with the anticipated rise in online gaming and the continuous improvement of mobile betting apps. He pointed to DraftKings as a company that is setting the pace for the industry. "DraftKings kind of set the tone; that stock was up almost 150% last year," Beynon said. He believes other companies could see similar success as the market evolves.
Addressing responsible betting, Beynon highlighted concerns about college sports betting. "College prop bets kind of became a hot-button issue a few months ago," he said. "It sounds like something that could and should go away. It&#8217;s only one to two percent of total bets, but we really shouldn&#8217;t be putting these college student-athletes in a position where they&#8217;re getting feedback from people that lost wages."

Despite the overall struggles in the sector, Cramer highlighted two growth stocks that continue to perform well: On Holding AG (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/ONON#NYSE">ONON</a>) and Deckers Outdoor Corp (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/DECK#NYSE">DECK</a>).

The company recently reported strong quarterly results, with Cramer noting, &#8220;They delivered 21 percent revenue growth, and it would have been 29 percent on a constant currency basis.&#8221; This growth was driven by &#8220;strong demand including major momentum for the direct to consumer channel,&#8221; with direct-to-consumer sales up 39% year-over-year.
&#8220;The strength here is incredibly broad-based with better than expected sales in the Americas and Asia Pacific.&#8221; Cramer said.
Deckers Outdoor — parent company of brands like Hoka, Ugg, and Teva — also received praise for its performance, particularly due to the success of Hoka running shoes. 
Hoka&#8217;s sales have surged from $223 million in fiscal 2019 to a projected $1.78 billion for fiscal 2024. It achieved a compound annual growth rate of 51.4%, Cramer noted.
&#8220;Deckers has seen its stock surge 513 percent over the same period,&#8221; he said. The company&#8217;s direct-to-consumer business and international expansion, particularly in Europe and China, have also been significant growth drivers.
However, Cramer cautioned that investing in these high-growth companies comes at a price. &#8220;They&#8217;re expensive. They&#8217;re really expensive,&#8221; he said. On Holding trades at over 33 times next year&#8217;s earnings estimates, while Deckers trades at 25 times.
Despite the steep valuations, he said, &#8220;You have to pay up for outsized growth and these companies can deliver it.&#8221; 
&#8220;Even when the footwear and athletic apparel space is a nightmare for most of the industry, you can still find great brands that are winning, like the ones that belong to On Holding and Deckers Outdoor,&#8221; Cramer added.
