Tim Cook Admits He Has Doubts About Apple's Ability To Prevent AI Hallucinations: 'I Would Never Claim That It's 100%'

A new report by European law enforcement agency Europol cast aspersions on cryptocurrency mining, calling the burgeoning industry vulnerable to money laundering and financial frauds.
What Happened: The 56-page <a href="https://www.europol.europa.eu/cms/sites/default/files/documents/EU_Innovation_Hub_First%20Report%20on%20Encryption.pdf">report </a>on encryptions and data privacy accused the mining industry of being a soft target for "criminal actors."
To illustrate, the report cited cases where mining rigs were used to buy cryptocurrency equipment from criminal proceeds–a case of money laundering.
"Even when such purchases were not profitable, criminals can still run such mining operations as it can be a cover for illicit earnings," the report underlined. Moreover, it can fetch them profits if they mine new cryptocurrencies.
Europol added that such activities were observed in mining pools, especially those targeted by ransomware attackers.
The report further highlighted the growing menace of cryptojacking – a cyber attack that exploits a target computer to illicitly mine cryptocurrencies. Put simply, this method steals a miner's processing power for which they make huge capital investments.
The agency also flagged specific examples where attackers used mining pools to run Ponzi schemes. The BitClub Network, which promised earnings from non-existent pools, scammed investors of millions of dollars.
Why It Matters: The scathing criticism comes even as former President Donald Trump warms up to Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) miners to build support for his presidential bid.&nbsp;
Trump had a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cryptocurrency/24/06/39283958/donald-trump-champions-miners-in-his-latest-crypto-advocacy-initiative-the-guy-is-a-huge-f">meeting with miners at his Mar-a-Lago resort</a> on Tuesday, meeting top executives from mining giants like Riot Platforms Inc. European Law Agency Says Bitcoin Mining Vulnerable To Financial Crimes Even As Donald Trump Cosies Up To The Industry

Apple, Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AAPL#NASDAQ">AAPL</a>) <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/06/39273468/apple-stock-is-surging-tuesday-whats-going-on">shares rallied on Tuesday</a>, a bit late after the company&#8217;s Worldwide Developers Conference keynote presentation, but a bullish analyst said she was left unimpressed by the announcements.
Nothing Changes: Following Tim Cook&#8217;s keynote speech, the consensus estimates remain unchanged, <a href="https://x.com/YahooFinance/status/1800612187293012196">said</a> Needham analyst Laura Martin in an interview with Yahoo Finance.
The analyst also suggested that much of the presentation lacked substance. &#8220;They just talked for 65 minutes about new colors and emojis and capabilities and I felt like a Snap CEO talking like &#8216;we&#8217;re gonna target 22-year olds,'&#8221; she said, adding that an average smartphone owner is in their forties.
Apple relegating AI to the last 30 minutes was &#8220;weird,&#8221; especially as Wall Street is focused only on learning about generative AI, Martin said. &#8220;This year, we&#8217;re projecting 1% revenue growth, which is really uninteresting as a stock, unless they&#8217;re gonna use generative AI to drive an iPhone replacement cycle, and iPhones are over 50% of their total revenue,&#8221; she said.
&#8220;I just didn&#8217;t hear that yesterday.&#8221; 
Martin said she hasn&#8217;t altered her estimates, given that the company&#8217;s revenue is expected to grow only at 1% in the near term. Since the company issues upgrade updates once a year, it could mean more waiting time. &#8220;We didn&#8217;t like what they said yesterday [Monday]. We&#8217;re gonna wait a year to figure out whether we like what they say next year about gen AI,&#8221; she said.

Near-Sighted Strategy: Martin noted that a lot of companies including Alphabet, Amazon and Microsoft are building large-language models for gen AI as they can reap rewards in the form of a 10% tithe on every dollar earned in their clouds on gen AI. The returns on capital for these companies may be falling this year and probably the next but ultimately they are going to dominate the world. she said.
Apple, however, hasn&#8217;t raised the capex guidance at all, Martin said. The $100 billion stock buyback the company announced recently is sending the message that it has &#8220;nothing better to do&#8221; with its money than return to its shareholders, she added.
While sales climb an anemic 1%, earnings per share can rise 8% due to the stock buyback, which will put a floor under the shares, the analyst said. 
&#8220;So as a shareholder, you want to be in Apple this year&#8230; But in four years, you don&#8217;t wanna be anywhere near the stock &#8216;cos it&#8217;s gonna be in a strategic box,&#8221; Martin said. &#8220;Whereas these other companies that have already spent the money four years from now are gonna be sort of riding the big wave of generative AI invasion.&#8221;
Martin was bullish on the prospects of AI. &#8220;Generative AI is here to stay and&#8230;.a lot of companies are making a point of how they&#8217;re using Generative I today, not tomorrow, not when they launch their next product in September or December, like Apple said,&#8221; the analyst said. &#8220;They are using generative AI today and <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/24/03/37464248/jpmorgan-aims-for-1-5b-in-ai-value-by-2023-boosting-efficiency-in-corporate-finance">a lot of my companies are saying they&#8217;re going to cut cost 20%-30%</a> in areas where they&#8217;re using generative AI to replace people like in services or chatbots.&#8221;
Apple shares soared 7.26% on Tuesday before ending at an all-time high of $207.15, according to<a href="https://benzinga.grsm.io/register174"> Benzinga Pro data.</a> The stock has gained about 8% year-to-date.

He leads a team of 55 individuals, all of whom report directly to him. Huang&#8217;s management structure is designed to facilitate quick information flow and agility, which means he avoids unnecessary meetings, including regular check-ins with his direct reports.
&#8220;Unless they need me, then I&#8217;ll drop everything for them,&#8221; Huang said.
His approach is in stark contrast to traditional management styles, where regular one-on-one meetings are the norm. Huang and his executives communicate enough throughout the workday to stay on the same page without needing formal meetings.

Elon Musk Agrees With Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's Unconventional Management Style: No Scheduled 1-On-1 Meetings 'Unless They Need Me'

B&amp;C Group (&quot;B&amp;C&quot;) and Suzano S.A. (&quot;Suzano&quot;) today announce that Suzano has entered into a long-term partnership with B&amp;C with respect to its majority stake in Lenzing AG (&quot;Lenzing&quot; or &quot;the company&quot;), the Vienna-listed leading global supplier of cellulosic fibres for the textile and non-wovens industry.
Under the terms of the agreement, Suzano will acquire a&nbsp;15 percent&nbsp;stake in Lenzing from B&amp;C and the two shareholders will form a long-term syndicate which will hold the majority stake (52.25 percent) in the company. Subject to the closing of the transaction, B&amp;C will hold a&nbsp;37.25 percent&nbsp;stake in Lenzing and keep the role as controlling member of the new syndicate, with Suzano holding the minority stake of&nbsp;15 percent. The price per share will be EUR 39.70, with a total acquisition purchase price of EUR 230 million to be fully paid at closing.
As part of the long-term partnership, Suzano has the option to acquire an additional&nbsp;15 percent&nbsp;stake in the company from B&amp;C until the end of 2028. The agreement also stipulates that B&amp;C will remain a committed long-term shareholder in the company.

What Happened: A recent Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/business/elon-musk-spacex-employee-relationships-8bca2806?mod=hp_lead_pos1">report</a> detailed Musk&#8217;s alleged relationships with several woman colleagues at SpaceX. The report, based on conversations with over four dozen individuals, including former employees and friends of the women, suggests that Musk&#8217;s behavior has contributed to a culture of sexism and harassment at the company.
One woman, who was an intern at SpaceX, allegedly had a romantic relationship with Musk, who is more than 20 years her senior. The relationship reportedly began during her internship and continued after she joined the company as a full-time employee. She eventually left the company in 2019.
During her employment at SpaceX from 2017 to 2019, she clarified that there was no &#8220;romantic relationship&#8221; with Musk at any time. "Nothing that Elon Musk did towards me during either of my periods of employment at SpaceX was predatory or wrongful in any way," the woman said.
Another woman, a SpaceX flight attendant, claimed that Musk exposed himself to her in 2016 and offered to buy her a horse in exchange for sexual favors. A third woman, who left the company in 2013, alleged that Musk asked her to have his babies.
Former SpaceX executives and employees who were fired after complaining to the National Labor Relations Board in 2022, claim that a high-level group around Musk does not hold him accountable, contributing to a culture of sexism and harassment.

SpaceX President and COO Gwynne Shotwell stated that the Wall Street Journal&#8217;s reporting does not accurately represent SpaceX&#8217;s culture.
