Jordan Peterson Says Grok Is As Woke As ChatGPT, Elon Musk Blames It On The Internet

Overview

Canadian psychologist and cultural critic Jordan Peterson has called out Elon Musk's Grok AI chatbot as being "woke", almost as much as OpenAI's ChatGPT.

What Happened: Peterson made the observation after using Grok and ChatGPT for his research.

"Grok, much like ChatGPT, relies constantly on radically left-leaning explanations, say, of the poverty of the Islamic world, attributing that to the exploitation of the West, instead of to the utter shameless corruption of those states," Peterson said.

Peterson's post triggered a response from Musk, who blamed Grok's wokeness on the internet.

"Unfortunately, the Internet (on which it is trained), is overrun with woke nonsense," Musk said.

He assured Peterson that Grok will "get better" and that it is currently in beta.

Peterson appeared to support Musk. In his initial post, he said users can "rely" on Musk to not send virtual signals like the Microsoft Corp.-backed (NASDAQ:MSFT) OpenAI.

This might resonate with Musk, who has long opposed what he considers "woke". He has criticized ChatGPT in the past as well for exactly this behavior.

Curiously enough, Greg Brockman, then the OpenAI president, admitted that the startup made a "mistake".

Why It Matters: Musk has been a vocal critic of what he terms the "woke mind virus". He has called it apocalyptic and has instead proposed free speech where people can voice their opinions without a filter.

Apart from ChatGPT, Musk has even slammed Netflix. In light of that, it is ironic that his own creation, Grok, seems to be woke, too.
