Channel 1, a Los Angeles-based channel, has posted a 20-minute news segment that is completely made up of AI anchors. This has shocked users on social media, leaving them who are wondering what's real and what's fake.
What Happened: Channel 1, a Los Angeles-based channel, plans to launch the new AI news anchors as early as February next year. The channel intends to launch them on ad-supported free streaming platforms such as Tubi, Pluto or Crackle.
This has sparked concerns over how the technology will be used to further spread fake news and how it will become difficult to distinguish fake news from reality.
"What's real, what's fake? We may never know," said a user.
"What's the worst application of AI that we could make today," said another
A user found the AI impressive, but added that "the clasped hand still needs some work."
Another user was cautious, while accepting that the video was impressive.
"Are we just gonna ignore how terrifying this is?" added another user.
It's not just social media users that are concerned, reporters have also raised their concerns on social media platforms.

"This is utterly, utterly terrifying. While the development of an entirely AI-powered broadcast is beyond impressive, it could have huge ramifications for an already depleted news industry and accelerate the loss of high-quality reporters and anchors," said Alec Lazenby, a Canada’s BC Today reporter.
Why It Matters: As AI becomes more accessible, the risks associated with its malicious use, such as the proliferation of disinformation and propaganda, also grow.
The use of AI to generate fake news has been a concern for a while now, and although there are tools to detect this now, it's not foolproof.
