Donald And Melania Trump, Others Remember First Lady Rosalynn Carter: She Was A 'Great Humanitarian, A Champion For Mental Health'

Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter‘s passing has elicited tributes from across the political spectrum, acknowledging her extensive public service and charitable work.

What Happened: Former President Donald Trump and Melania Trump commemorated the legacy of the former First Lady Carter, recognizing her remarkable achievements and dedication to national service.

The Trumps extended their sympathies following Carter’s passing away. In a statement, Trump praised her “legacy of extraordinary accomplishment and national service.”

Trump acknowledged Carter’s significant contributions as a dedicated First Lady, a humanitarian, a mental health advocate, and a loving wife to President Jimmy Carter for 77 years.

Rosalynn Carter died on Sunday afternoon at the age of 96, just two days after entering hospice care.

Melania Trump also paid tribute to Rosalynn Carter’s legacy in a separate post, lauding her as a dedicated wife, mother, and First Lady and wishing for her peaceful rest.

Other Reactions: House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) also praised Rosalynn and President Carter as outstanding examples of love, devotion, and public service. "She and President Carter were an outstanding example of love and devotion to one another and to others through their years of public service and extraordinary charitable works," he said.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) shared her condolences, referring to Carter as a “saintly and revered public servant.”

“Their beautiful love and partnership was truly a wonder for all to behold," Pelosi added.

First Lady Jill Biden also remembered Carter for her mental health, caregiving, and women's rights efforts. "So I hope that during the holidays, you'll … include the Carter family in your prayers," the first lady said.

Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton honored Carter for her work spreading "hope, health, and democracy across the globe."
