Things Turn Nasty During GOP Debate After Vivek Ramaswamy Attacks Nikki Haley's Daughter For Using TikTok: 'You're Just Scum'

The third Republican presidential debate saw a fiery exchange between former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and candidate Vivek Ramaswamy centered around a potential TikTok ban in the U.S..

What Happened: The thing turned nasty when Ramaswamy accused Haley of hypocrisy for being critical of him using TikTok while reminding her that her daughter also used the platform.

"Her own daughter was actually using the app for a long time, so you might want to take care your family first," Ramaswamy said.

The comment sparked a sharp response from Haley, who sternly told Ramaswamy, “Leave my daughter out of your voice. … You're just scum.”

The exchange took place during Wednesday's debate in Miami, the third GOP primary contest of the election season.

Why It Matters: The TikTok controversy has been a hot topic in recent times, with several national security officials, including the FBI, warning about the potential risk of personal data being sent to China’s government due to the app’s Chinese ownership.

Haley and Ramaswamy have had a history of tense exchanges throughout the primary. In the first debate in August, Haley criticized Ramaswamy for his lack of foreign policy experience.

During another segment of Wednesday's debate, which focused on foreign policy, Ramaswamy referred to Haley as "Dick Cheney in 3-inch heels," to which Haley retorted: "I'd first like to say, they're 5-inch heels — and I don't wear them unless you can run in them."
