Marjorie Taylor Greene Clashes With Chip Roy Over Censure Vote Disagreement: 'Go Chase So-Called Jewish Space Lasers'

Tensions flared between Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) on Thursday following a disagreement over a censure vote against Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.).

What Happened: Roy, on social media platform X, rejected Greene’s resolution to censure Tlaib for her criticism of the Israeli offensive on Hamas. He said the resolution was “deeply flawed and made legally and factually unverified claims.”

In retaliation, Greene accused Roy of previously voting to expel her from the far-right Freedom Caucus and siding with Democrats to shield Tlaib. Greene, known for defending the accused of the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol attack, also alleged Roy’s animosity towards former President Donald Trump.

“You hate Trump, certified Biden's election, and could care less about J6 defendants being persecuted,” she said.

Responding to Greene’s allegations, Roy referenced a 2018 post by Greene suggesting a Jewish family-controlled space laser was responsible for California wildfires. Roy suggested Greene could “go chase so-called Jewish space lasers,” The Hill reported.

The feud further escalated as Greene retorted by comparing Roy to “Colonel Sanders,” criticizing his political career and questioning his Texas origin.

Why It Matters: Greene has had a strained relationship with her fellow Republicans since her expulsion from the Freedom Caucus in July. She also had a showdown with Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), a fellow pro-Trump advocate.

The censure vote against Tlaib, accusing her of “antisemitic activity” and “leading an insurrection,” was prevented from reaching the floor by 23 Republicans along with all House Democrats.

Tlaib, the only Palestinian American member of Congress, has been critical of U.S. arms supply to Israel and has advocated for ending Israeli occupation.
