Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) rushed to defend Donald Trump‘s former advisor and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, after his Saudi connections were being scrutinized during Joe Biden‘s impeachment hearing.
What Happened: The House Oversight Committee is investigating the ties during a review of evidence regarding foreign business ventures by President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden.
The Republicans have accused Biden and his family of improper business dealings and alleged influence peddling during his vice-presidential tenure.
An impeachment inquiry into President Biden was announced by the House Speaker, Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), on Sept. 12. The Oversight Committee, chaired by Jordan, is part of this investigation.

The Democrats argued that a deal procured by Kushner with Saudi Arabian officials warrants more investigation than Biden. Despite objections, Kushner secured a $2 billion investment for his business, Affinity, from the Saudi Crown Prince six months post-Trump’s White House departure.
Democrats opine this case is worse as Kushner served in government, unlike Hunter Biden. Rep. Mike Garcia (D-Calif.) said, “Hunter Biden never held any sort of public office, and there is no evidence that he ever influenced any kind of policy in the White House.”
Jordan defended Kushner, highlighting his key role in the historic Abraham Accords. According to the Republicans, Kushner’s prior business experience and expertise justify his role, unlike Hunter Biden who lacked relevant qualifications for his position on a Ukrainian energy company board.
“I would just add to the gentleman’s remarks that Jared Kushner was a key player in the historic Abraham Accords!,” Jordan said.
The GOP plans to proceed with impeachment hearings despite the impending U.S. government shutdown, expected to occur at midnight on Oct. 1 with the start of the new fiscal year. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) brought a 62-hour ‘Shutdown Clock' to president’s impeachment inquiry to protest against the GOP's focus on investigating the president.
Raskin also said “If Republicans had a smoking gun or even a dripping water pistol, they would be presenting it today."
