Trump Ex-Attorney Rudy Giuliani Faces Lawsuit From Hunter Biden, Adding To His Legal Woes In 2023

Zinger Key Points
  • Hunter Biden has sued Rudy Giuliani over digital privacy rules related to his laptop.
  • The new lawsuit adds to legal challenges for the former attorney of Donald Trump.

Former New York City mayor and Donald Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani was among the individuals named in an indictment against the former president, relating to charges associated with the 2020 election.

On Tuesday, Giuliani found himself involved in another lawsuit, this time related to the son of President Joe Biden.

What Happened: A lawsuit by Hunter Biden was announced against Giuliani Tuesday, tied to a famous laptop belonging to the president’s son. The lawsuit comes as Hunter Biden faces federal charges of his own related to a weapon he purchased in 2018.

Hunter Biden is suing Guiliani claiming the former Trump attorney hacked his hard drive and was able to manipulate the data, which broke his “digital privacy,” according to the New York Post.

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court of Central California. In addition to Giuliani, former federal prosecutor Robert Costello was also named.

The Computer Fraud and Abuse Act is used in the lawsuit, accusing the two parties of breaking digital privacy rules.

“For the past many months, and even years, Defendants have dedicated an extraordinary amount of time and energy toward looking for, hacking into, tampering with, manipulating, copying, disseminating, and generally obsessing over data that they were given that was taken or stolen from Plaintiff’s devices or storage platforms, including what Defendants claim to have obtained from Plaintiff’s alleged ‘laptop computer,’” the lawsuit reads.

The lawsuit accuses Giuliani and Costello of conducting a “total annihilation” of Biden’s “digital privacy.” The laptop was found at a Delaware repair shop in 2019, according to the lawsuit.

Why It’s Important: Giuliani previously claimed the files from the laptop were given to him by the owner of the repair shop in question. Both Giuliani and Costello have bragged publicly about accessing files on the laptop.

The items alleged to have been accessed by the two defendants on the laptop include emails, bank statements, financial documents, and personal photos.

Giuliani faces charges related to his role in the 2020 election. Last week, Giuliani was also served with a lawsuit by Costello, his co-defendant in this new case. Costello sued Giuliani, claiming he's owed around $1.4 million in unpaid legal fees.

The 2024 election is shaping up to potentially be a rematch between Trump and Joe Biden, who previously competed in the 2020 election. Both candidates have people related to them involved in legal matters heading into the election, which could become a key topic in potential debates and their campaigns.
