Repairing iPhone 15 Pro's Back Glass Is 3x Cheaper, But It Is Shockingly Fragile

Apple Inc.'s AAPL latest flagship, the iPhone 15 Pro, is mired in another controversy – the back glass is far more fragile than the one on its predecessor.

What Happened: Although replacing the back glass of the iPhone 15 Pro is cheaper than its predecessor, you may have to do that more often now. A new test has revealed that the iPhone 15 Pro's back glass breaks with a simple thumb press.

The iPhone 15 Pro is mired in controversies right now – from discoloration to color chipping issues, overheating concerns, and durability of the titanium design, early buyers have been vocal about iPhone 15's problems.

The latest in this line is YouTuber Zack Nelson of JerryRig's iPhone 15 Pro Max test. Nelson puts Apple's top-tier iPhone through the paces and finds it easy to damage the back glass.

"Most phones do not break. iPhones, especially, do not break like ever. That snap was abnormally quick," Nelson said when the iPhone 15 Pro Max' back glass broke when he was just getting started with his bend test.

"Kind of stunned," he added, saying that he's not certain if this is because of the grade 5 titanium that Apple has used. "The glass did not like being pressed or flexed by my thumb. That's crazy," he said.

Why It Matters: Apple has reduced the price of replacing the back glass of the iPhone 15 Pro to $169 from $499 for the iPhone 14 Pro. Likewise, the iPhone 15 Pro Max' back glass costs $199 compared to $549 for the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Essentially, it's now three times cheaper to replace the back glass, but going by Nelson's test, it's also far easier to break it. You might end up spending more to get it replaced throughout your use.
