The iPhone 15 Pro's USB-C port turns into a super phone, allowing it to do things that older iPhones could not. Here's everything that your new iPhone 15 Pro can do that turns it into a superphone compared to older iPhones.

What Is This About: iPhone 15 Pro's USB-C port allows users to supercharge their data transfers and charge older iPhones and Android phones.

While Apple Inc.'s AAPL decision to embrace the USB-C port with the iPhone 15 series was widely welcomed, Apple did not go into too much detail about the new features this port unlocks for users.

Charge Older iPhones And Android Phones With iPhone 15 Pro

For instance, Apple's website says that the iPhone 15 Pro (and other iPhone 15 models) can be used to charge AirPods, Apple Watch, and other small devices.

Apple also says that you can use your iPhone 15 to charge your friend's iPhone 15 using a USB-C to USB-C cable.

The fun doesn't end there, though.

You can use a USB-C to Lightning cable to charge your older iPhones with your iPhone 15.

Moreover, you can also use a compatible cable to charge Android phones and the iPhone 15. In most cases, a USB-C to USB-C cable will do the job.

That's probably one good way of paying back your Android friends who were generous enough to let you charge your iPhone using reverse wireless charging on their devices.

Sadly, the iPhone 15 still doesn't support reverse wireless charging.

Supercharged Data Transfers

In addition to allowing you to lend your battery to friends with older iPhones or Android devices, the USB-C port also supercharges data transfer speeds.

According to Apple, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max use the USB 3.2 standard. This allows for data transfer speeds of up to 10Gbps, which is nearly 20 times as fast as older iPhones with the Lightning port.

Essentially, you can transfer 25GB of data in 20 seconds. That's nearly 5,000 photos with an average size of 5MB.

Save ProRes And ProRAW Videos Directly To An SSD

For professional photographers, shooting videos in RAW is now easier than ever before – you can connect an SSD directly to your iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max and save ProRes and ProRAW videos directly on the external storage.

When you connect an external storage to your iPhone 15 Pro, you can shoot ProRes videos at up to 4K resolution at 30 fps.

When you're done, you can just detach the external storage and connect it to your Mac or Windows computer to transfer seamlessly. No more hassles of connecting your iPhone and transferring manually or making space on your iPhone by deleting other content.

Seamless External Monitor Support

Apple is marketing the iPhone 15 Pro as "the best game console"; to that end, the USB-C port makes it more seamless than ever to connect to an external monitor.

Essentially, your iPhone 15 Pro does all the heavy lifting, and you can use the external monitor to play games on the big screen.

Apple says that you will need a cable with USB 3.1 or higher support, and the display needs to support the DisplayPort protocol.
