Alphabet Inc.'s GOOG GOOGL Google will celebrate its 25th birthday later this month, and CEO Sundar Pichai got emotional reminiscing about how far the company, and technology in general, has come during this quarter of a century.

What Happened: Incorporated on September 4, 1998, this is Google's 25th birthday month, and its CEO Sundar Pichai got emotional while looking back at how the company and technology, in general, have evolved and what the future looks like.

"This month, Google will celebrate our 25th birthday. It's a huge privilege to reach this milestone, made possible by the people who use our products and challenge us to keep innovating," Pichai said, thanking current and past Googlers and partners.

Unsurprisingly, Search is a key part of Pichai's letter – after all, it is the foundation on which co-founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page built the company.

"I remember feeling blown away by Google's ability to find the best answer for the most esoteric questions, from a tiny detail buried in a store's customer service page to an obscure football rule," he said, marveling at how the questions he's asked Google have evolved over time, and of course, the fact that Google kept getting better at returning answers.

"Search is still at the core of our mission, and it's still our biggest moonshot with so much more to do," he added, stressing the importance of Search 25 years since the founding of Google.

Hard Questions About The Future: Pichai underlined how Google has adapted to the fast-changing technology landscape – from questions about the future of the web to mobile internet and now AI, Google and Googlers have seen plenty in the last 25 years.

"Each time, we've answered by coming back even stronger. We've done this guided by a singular focus on our mission, our belief in applying deep computer science to make people's lives better, and a healthy disregard for the impossible," Pichai said.

While Search will continue to be at the heart of Google, how it is used to shape the company’s future will evolve.

One aspect of this is artificial intelligence (AI). While Google is no stranger to AI, it has been beaten to the punch by Microsoft Corp. MSFT backed OpenAI's ChatGPT.

However, Google isn't resting on its laurels here. It has started testing out Bard in Search, combining the visual elements of a conversational chatbot with the familiarity of Google Search.
