White House On Wagner Group Chief's Supposed Death: 'No One Should Be Surprised'

White House comments on potential death of Wagner Group’s Yevgeny Prigozhin in plane crash, stating that it is not surprised, Business Insider reports.

“We have seen the reports. If confirmed, no one should be surprised,” White House National Security Spokesperson Adrienne Watson said.

Russian media indicated that Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner Group, was listed as a passenger on the plane that crashed near Moscow.

The aircraft, en route from Moscow to St. Petersburg, went down in the Tver region, resulting in the death of all 10 individuals on board. Although Prigozhin’s name appeared on the passenger list, his presence on the plane remains unconfirmed.

This incident follows two months after Prigozhin led a brief mutiny against Russia’s military hierarchy, causing significant internal turmoil. Some Western authorities had previously speculated that Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, might seek retribution.
