'Still Very Much Jimmy Carter': Grandson Shares Former President's Health Update

Former President Jimmy Carter‘s grandson Josh Carter stated that his grandfather is “still very much Jimmy Carter,” embracing life under hospice care at their Georgia home with his wife, Rosalynn Carter, The New York Times reported.

“He's still opinionated, he's still strong-willed, he's still him. And that's great to see,” Josh Carter told in a telephonic interview.

Jimmy Carter, now 98 and relying on a wheelchair, is the longest-living U.S. president. The Carter family is planning for his 99th birthday on Oct 1, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate this milestone.

The former President, who has faced multiple health crises in recent years, decided to enter hospice care in February after a battle with skin cancer melanoma that spread to his liver and brain. Generally, hospice care patients are expected to have six months or less to live, as per the American Medical Association.

Mrs. Carter celebrated her own milestone on Friday, turning 96. Despite her battle with dementia, she continues to recognize family members and maintains a strong bond with her husband, with the couple often seen holding hands, their grandson said.

The Carters have been married for 77 years and are known for their enduring love and commitment to each other.

“They still have a house full of love, and a house full of family,” Josh Carter said.
