GOP Candidate Casts Doubt On Trump's Presidential Eligibility, Invokes 14th Amendment

Republican presidential candidate and the former Arkansas governor, Asa Hutchinson, has cited the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution to question former President Donald Trump‘s eligibility for the top office, The Hill reported.

A Republican critic of Trump, Hutchinson suggests that the former president’s actions on Jan 6 might have disqualified him from the future presidency.

"I'm not even sure he's qualified to be the next president of the United States. And so you can't be asking us to support somebody that's not perhaps even qualified under our Constitution. And I'm referring to the 14th Amendment. A number of legal scholars said that he is disqualified because of his actions on January 6," Hutchinson expressed in an interview on CNN's "State of the Union."

Hutchinson, who recently qualified for the upcoming GOP presidential primary debate, suggests that the legal scenario could unfold through a court declaration following a lawsuit, or a state independently determining Trump’s disqualification. Either way, the issue is likely to land in court.

He also hinted at possible lawsuits and state actions, adding that Trump’s eligibility was in “serious jeopardy” under the Constitution.
