Trump Labels Fani Willis 'Corrupt' After Latest Indictment: 'Sounds Rigged To Me'

Former President Donald Trump and his lawyers on late Monday reacted to the recently unveiled Georgia indictment, calling it “shocking and absurd.”

What Happened: Trump dubbed his new indictment a “witch hunt” and berated the “corrupt” District Attorney.

“So, the Witch Hunt continues! 19 people Indicated tonight, including the former President of the United States, me, by an out of control and very corrupt District Attorney who campaigned and raised money on, "I will get Trump." And what about those Indictment Documents put out today, long before the Grand Jury even voted, and then quickly withdrawn? Sounds Rigged to me! Why didn't they Indict 2.5 years ago? Because they wanted to do it right in the middle of my political campaign. Witch Hunt!,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Meanwhile, his lawyers blamed the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office for hastily pushing through a 98-page indictment based on testimonies from biased witnesses, some of whom had personal and political interests against Trump. “This one-sided grand jury presentation relied on witnesses who harbor their own personal and political interests.”

“The events that have unfolded today have been shocking and absurd, starting with the leak of a presumed and premature indictment before the witnesses had testified or the grand jurors had deliberated and ending with the District Attorney being unable to offer any explanation,” said in a statement, in response to the charges, which were announced on Monday, related to Trump’s alleged involvement in the 2020 presidential election interference.

Why It Matters: Trump and 18 of his allies were charged in Georgia in connection to their alleged efforts to overturn Joe Biden‘s 2020 election victory in the state.

This marks the fourth time this year that Trump has been indicted, further complicating his potential run in the 2024 elections.Trump’s conversation with Georgia Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, which he described as “an absolutely perfect phone call,” has been a focal point of these investigations.

The former president’s campaign also criticized District Attorney Fani Willis, accusing her of bias and alleging her involvement in meddling with the upcoming 2024 presidential campaign.

The GOP members, including Kevin McCarthyJim Jordan and Ted Cruz, have criticized the recent actions against Trump, suggesting that the Biden administration and the Georgia DA are leveraging their power for political gains.
