Dean Phillips Urges Joe Biden To 'Pass The Torch' In 2024: 'The Majority Wants To Move On'

Minnesota’s Rep. Dean Phillips has openly called for potential 2024 challengers to President Joe Biden, Business Insider reports.

Phillips, representing Minnesota’s third congressional district, expressed his sentiments on MSNBC’s “Meet the Press”.

He stated, “Tired of the meanness and the fear-mongering of Donald Trump, I would like to see Joe Biden, a wonderful and remarkable man, pass the torch, and cement this extraordinary legacy. I believe what’s in the best interest of the country – and by the way, this is not how everybody thinks, but I do believe the majority wants to move on.”

The comment appears amid concerns among Democrats revolving around Biden’s age, health and polling favorability leading up to the 2024 Presidential elections.

So far, only two Democrats, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Marianne Williamson, have formally announced their intention to challenge Biden in the primaries.

Phillips hopes for a “moderate governor, hopefully from the heartland” to join the race, suggesting potential candidates like Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker.
