Trump Can't Win A General Election, Says Chris Christie: 'And That's Not Speculation'

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a Republican, said that Donald Trump "can't win a general election" and said his 2024 presidential attempt would not see success.

What Happened: Christie appeared on ABC News’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos" on Saturday.

“I've said, over and over again, that he can't win a general election. And that's not speculation,” said the former governor.

“That's based upon the polling that I was privy to pre-the 2020 election, and what we saw actually happen in the 2020 election. And it's only gotten worse since then.”

Christie pointed to the 2022 midterm polls and said that “election deniers” lost across the United States.

Why It Matters: Christie noted that Trump-backed candidates like Kari Lake, Blake Masters, Tim Michaels, Tudor Jones didn’t fare well in the mid-terms.

“We could go through the entire list — loser, loser, loser, loser — and I think Republicans are recognizing that,” said Christie.

However, Christie and other guests on the show noted that it was dangerous to take a Trump nomination off the table. The former governor said, “You have him on the table every minute.”

Trump announced his 2024 presidential bid in November from his Mar-a-Lago estate. Trump has attributed Republicans losing the midterms due to their poor handling of the abortion issue.
