Snap Camera won't be available for use or download from Jan. 25. The platform further informed that users can continue to access Lenses on their computer via the web version of Snapchat.

Snap did not immediately respond to Benzinga's request for comments.

In 2018, Snap introduced its Camera app to elevate users' Twitch streams. The feature became popular during the COVID-19 pandemic, when everyone began working from home and video conferences/calls emerged as the preferred mode of communication, according to The Verge.

Why It's Important: It is possible that Snap thought the feature was no longer essential for users, considering many companies have started either a hybrid work model or asked employees to return to the office full-time, the report noted.

Additionally, given video chat apps have also started creating their distinctive filters, it is likely Snap didn't feel the need for a dedicated app to serve the same purpose.

For example, Zoom enables users to show up as animals or add cool facial effects.
