NHDC, a subsidiary of NHPC Limited, has announced the full commissioning of the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Power Plant (FSPV), Unit-D. The plant, with a capacity of 88 megawatts, is located in the reservoir of the Omkareshwar project in Madhya Pradesh.
What Happened: The company’s filing with the BSE revealed that the plant was successfully commissioned on October 29, 2024. The plant, which was completed at a cost of ₹589.16 crore, has an annual generation capacity of 204.58 million units. The projected annual revenue from the project is around ₹65.87 crore.

This development comes at a time when NHPC’s shares have been on a downward trajectory for the past few months. The stock is down around 15% in the last 30 days. The company had previously reported a significant loss of around ₹327.67 crore due to a major landslide in Sikkim that affected its 510-megawatt Teesta-V Power Station.
In a bid to boost its renewable energy portfolio, NHPC had also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Rajasthan on September 30, 2024. The MoU, which involves an estimated investment of around ₹50,000 crores, includes plans for the development of Pumped Storage Projects, Renewable Energy (Solar/ Floating Solar/ Wind) Projects, and Battery Energy Storage System in Rajasthan.
