From Georgia's Marshes To Borneo's Rainforests: NASA Taps Into Planet Labs' 50 Petabyte Imagery Treasure

Planet Labs PBC PL announced that NASA has extended its Blanket Purchase Agreement.

NASA extended its Blanket Purchase Agreement with Planet under the Commercial SmallSat Data Acquisition (CSDA) Program. This extension encompasses multiple orders amounting to $18.5 million in funding, which will be available through 2024.

Through the CSDA Program, eligible civilian federally funded researchers and federal civilian agency personnel can tap into Planet's extensive 50 petabyte collection of PlanetScope imagery for scientific purposes and Earth science applications.

"The Planet-NASA partnership is amazing: researchers sponsored by NASA have deployed Planet's data to better understand almost every dimension of our Earth system, from tidal marshes in Georgia, glacier calving faces in Greenland to rich rainforest biodiversity of Borneo," commented Will Marshall, co-founder and CEO at Planet.

The partnership with NASA, active for over five years, supports scientific researchers across 32 U.S. Federal Government agencies. Access to Planet's global satellite data is important to the CSDA Program's mission of identifying, evaluating, and acquiring data from commercial sources that support NASA's Earth science research and application goals for societal benefit.
