Jimmy Buffett's Final Album Features Paul McCartney, 'My Gummie Just Kicked In'

Jimmy Buffett, the ever-inspiring Margaritaville singer left us one last album, which he recorded just before his death on September 1.

On Friday, it was announced that Buffett’s “Equal Strain On All Parts” will be released on November 3.

The new album features a track on which Buffett teams up with Paul McCartney. "My Gummie Just Kicked In," which was reportedly inspired by an incident involving an edible and a dinner party.

What Happened

Buffett and his wife, Jane, were dining with McCartney and his wife, Nancy, who "stumbled on her way to the dinner table," according to a press release cited by Wesley Stenzel in Entertainment Weekly. Buffett asked Nancy if she was okay to which she responded, "Oh, no, I'm fine. My gummie just kicked in!"

Buffett was inspired to write a song about the moment and McCartney helped him out in the studio, noted EW. "Don't know where I'm going / Don't know where I've been / All I know for certain is that my gummie just kicked in," Buffett playfully sings.

“I was very happy to have played on one of his latest songs called ‘My Gummy Just Kicked In,'” McCartney shared in a tribute to Buffet on X/Twitter. “We had a real fun session and he played me some of his new songs.”

"Bubbles Up"

In addition to “Gummie,” Buffett’s team shared that other tracks include “Bubbles Up,” which is a country-leaning anthem that offers hope and encouragement. "So when the journey gets long/Just know that you are loved/There is light up above/And the joy is always enough/Bubbles up," go the lyrics.

“I told him that not only was the song great but the vocal was probably the best I’ve heard him sing ever,” McCartney said of “Bubbles Up.” “He turned a diving phrase that is used to train people underwater into a metaphor for life when you’re confused and don’t know where you are just follow the bubbles–they’ll take you up to the surface and straighten you out right away.”

In addition to Paul McCartney, the new album features a star-studded list of collaborators including Emmylou Harris, Lennie Gallant, Angelique Kidjo and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
