Bipartisan Duo Pushes For MMJ Home Grow In Pennsylvania

A new legislative push in Pennsylvania seeks to allow state-approved medical cannabis users to cultivate marijuana plants for personal use at their homes, reported ABC27.

The bipartisan duo of state Senators Sharif Street (D-Philadelphia) and Dan Laughlin (R-Erie) plan to introduce a measure under which only a limited number of plants would be allowed for growing at home.

"It is critical that policy meet people where they are," said the lawmakers. "By allowing medical marijuana patients to grow cannabis plants at home, we can help ease the cost and accessibility burdens for this important medicine."

Mass. Cannabis Businesses Advocate For Equity Fund To Support Existing Operators

A coalition of businesses have implored the Massachusetts cannabis regulator to dispense money from the social equity trust fund to current social-equity-licensed businesses instead of incentivizing new ones to enter the market, reported the Boston Business Journal.

Western Front, Home Grown617, Yamba Market, Apex Noire, Rooted In and KG Collective Cambridge urged the state Cannabis Control Commission this weekend to provide them funds due to regulatory and local delays they endured in order to assist the state in comprehending the cannabis industry.

"We've all come together to sign a petition so that it's clear to the Cannabis Control Commission what the position is of actual equity companies that are doing the real work in the field," said Sieh Samura, the co-owner and CEO of Yamba Market in Cambridge. "We are the pioneers. We have invested the most in this program and we've been promised financial support the longest. We've been waiting."

Major Expansion Of Cannabis Ownership And Licensing In New Jersey

The New Jersey Legislature recently passed a measure (S2766/A4151) under which those who already have cannabis licenses statewide can own up to seven diversely-owned Class 5 Retail Licenses, according to JD Supra.

The current regulations issued by the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission prevent anyone holding at least 5% equity in one entity with a cannabis license from owning a stake in any other business filing for or having such a permit.

If Governor Phil Murphy signs the bill, it will permit people to have up to 35% equity in a maximum of seven different Class 5 Retail Licenses. Additionally, these individuals will be able to give loans and license intellectual property (IP) to the said license holders, subject to the conditions that the terms are "commercially reasonable."
