From Entry-Level To C-Suite: Cannabis Career Conference Offers Opportunities For Everyone In Chicago

June 19th, a day historically significant to African-Americans for its connection to emancipation, will see the city of Chicago play host to the innovative 40 Tons Level Up Career Conference & Business Expo. This trailblazing event, presented by Good Green, has its foundations deeply rooted in restorative justice, employment equity and multicultural inclusivity.

At the forefront of this initiative is 40 Tons, an African-American and woman-led organization relentlessly striving for equitable career opportunities. In collaboration with the cannabis brand Good Green, 40 Tons is pulling out all the stops to ensure that this year's Level Up Career Conference unfolds as more than just an average job fair.

The mission of 40 Tons, as put forth by CEO Loriel Alegrete, is to "close the gaps within all industries, starting with the cannabis industry." Its unique approach in doing so revolves around providing a comprehensive suite of resources and tools to attendees, enabling them to "level up" their professional journeys. This central pillar of restorative justice emphasizes five critical areas: Employment, Expungement, Education, Empowerment, and Engagement.

The presenting sponsor, Good Green, is a cannabis brand known for its strong advocacy in addressing the disproportionate impact of the War on Drugs on marginalized communities. The organization shares a common vision with 40 Tons, aiming to forge more employment and expungement opportunities for affected individuals.

Jai Kensey, director of social impact at Green Thumb Industries GTBIF, expresses Good Green's pride in partnering with 40 Tons and their mutual anticipation to support diverse candidates in their career progression.

In addition to Good Green, the event also finds support from civic leaders, local organizations, several law firms, and law school students. One of the conference's significant features is the expungement clinic. It aims to provide comprehensive services including offsite fingerprinting, securing rap sheets, petition creation, and legal aid, geared towards helping individuals with previous convictions navigate the legal process. Congressman Danny K. Davis, known for his sponsorship of the Second Chance Act of 2007, will provide insights on the "State of Expungement in Illinois."

The event will also host Khadijah Tribble, a strategic advisor with notable experience in economic development and social justice, who will deliver a keynote presentation titled "Breaking The Glass Ceiling & Creating Your Own Lane". CBS2 Chicago News reporter Dorothy Tucker, also the president of the National Association of Black Journalists, is set to introduce this session.
