Category: Top Cannabis Finance Reporters

Debra Borchardt

Our lineup kicks off with none other than Debra Borchardt, a leading authoritative voice in the investment space, cannabis or otherwise. As co-founder, CEO and editor-in-chief of Green Market Report, a financial news site for the marijuana industry, Borchardt knows what it takes to be a Boss Lady in the cannabis space.

She had more than 15 years of experience working in the securities industry, including as a VP for Bear Stearns, before venturing into journalism and getting her Master's Degree in Journalism at New York University (NYU).

As a financial journalist, she appeared on The Today Show, CNBC and Bloomberg TV, while sharpening her skills for eight years at The Street.

Whether it's covering women's experiences in the cannabis industry or covering the latest news and trends in the marijuana space, Borchardt proves that one person can make a difference.

Tim Seymour

Next up, we have Tim Seymour, a director and founder of The Amplify Seymour Cannabis ETF CNBS, which launched on the New York Stock Exchange in July 2019.

A market expert and co-host of "Fast Money" on CNBC, Seymour has been one of many great presenters and speakers at several  Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conferences over the past few years.

Besides being one of the more recognizable names in the finance space, he is also CIO and founder of Seymour Asset Management firm and Senior Advisor to the JWAM Growth (Cannabis) Fund.

Seymour has 25 years of investment experience as a portfolio manager and capital markets professional known for testing unconventional market opportunities.

With a background in emerging markets and new asset classes, he was an early investor and participant in the marijuana sector since 2016.

Frank Holland

Frank Holland, Seymour's CNBC colleague, based at CNBC Global Headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, joined the network in September 2018 from NBC 10 Boston and NECN, where he served as an anchor and reporter.

His broad experience ranges from a position at WCVB in Boston and the time spent at WGN-TV in Chicago as an anchor and reporter to positions at NBC Affiliate WDIV in Detroit and News 12 in New York.

Now CBNC general reporter Holland recently delivered the 2022 Playbook on the cannabis market, shedding some light on the rules of the game for the cannabis industry in 2022.

Chloe Aiello

Chloe Aiello, another journalist from CNBC's bench, covers a wide range of topics – everything from tech and healthcare to lifestyle, arts, culture and cannabis. Nowadays, she's a Senior Reporter at Cheddar.

In addition to posting relevant and breaking news updates, her feed is more than occasionally impactful and, by some, considered a breath of fresh air.

Aiello honed her skills while working for local news startup Denverite and through her freelance endeavors at the Today Show and BusinessDen, to name a few.

Steve Gelsi

Steve Gelsi, a senior financial reporter at MarketWatch, was among the first professional journalists to venture into cannabis. In the early 1990s, he started writing about cannabis as a freelancer for High Times. Based in Montclair, New Jersey, he rejoined MarketWatch in 2021.

Gelsi spent over a decade working as an Internet journalist and daily newspaper reporter, as well as covering Wall Street and interviewing experts.

In addition to being an experienced reporter, Gelsi is also a blogger, editor and book author with a passion for news. A new book he co-authored with Thom Calandra, titled "CBS Marketwatch Stories Behind The Numbers: How America Made A Fortune And Lost Its Shirt," focuses on the finance sector.

His specialties include on-camera and public speaking, in addition to quick analysis and reporting on private equity, financial markets, the energy sector, legal cannabis, and initial public offerings.

Max A. Cherney

Max A. Cherney is a senior reporter at Protocol covering the semiconductor industry. In his previous role at Barron's magazine, he focused on semiconductor, videogame, and social media stocks.

Based in San Francisco, Cherney joined Dow Jones in 2017 as a cannabis and technology reporter for Barron's sister site, MarketWatch, where he kept an eye on large, public cannabis companies in Canada and the U.S.

Cherney's work was featured in various magazines and news outlets, including VICE, San Francisco Magazine, and The Economist, to name a few.

Alan Brochstein

As we're getting close to the end of our list, we have Alan Brochstein, a seasoned expert with more than three decades of experience in stock analysis, trading, and portfolio management.

He has been covering the cannabis industry full-time since 2013 while running 420 Investor, a subscription-based service focused on publicly-traded cannabis stocks, and New Cannabis Ventures, a cannabis news and information platform.

Prior to that, he worked as an independent research analyst following over two decades in research and portfolio management after his beginnings on Wall Street in 1986.

Brochstein also contributes to Seeking Alpha and Leafly.com, with over 600 articles covering everything from midsized companies to trading and investing strategies and focused market-sector investing.

Rena Sherbill

Last, but not least, we have Rena Sherbill, Seeking Alpha's Cannabis Investing Podcast host, senior editor, and director of video content.

After graduating from New York University with a degree in Journalism, Sherbill moved to Israel. Following years of working as a teacher, PR writer, and freelance journalist, she joined Seeking Alpha in 2008 and ventured into the investing world.

Her podcast is a great place to discuss all-things cannabis.
