How To See The Indicative Price For A Nadex Binary Or Spread Option During A Futures Rollover Week

Share:

Close to rollover time, a future trader needs to be sure to update their charts to show the correct contract. Traders don’t want to be looking at a July chart if the instrument they are trading is trading September contracts. For example, if one is trading an option on Nadex, they want to ensure that they are looking at the right underlying market. Traders should be sure the contract month on the chart matches with the contract month on the market and instrument being traded.

This week, Nadex Silver and Copper markets are rolling over. Silver will be using two different future months. Friday expirations are using September, and the current Silver contracts (intraday and daily) will remain on July until Thursday at 6 PM ET. Rollover on Nadex happens at 6 PM ET on the day before, as that is when the daily contracts open on most markets.

Trading Nadex binaries, the indicative price will not show on the trade tickets immediately leading up to rollover, and the Nadex charts showing the indicative moving will be unavailable as well. To inform their traders, Nadex has a window that opens up immediately when logging in to let users know of upcoming markets rolling over.

To manage trading without the indicative on the ticket or the Nadex chart with the moving indicative, traders need to make sure they have a platform with charts and underlying market data and the charts are on the correct month. Traders should not rely on web based charts.

Even if the indicative were available, traders need to make sure they're looking at the right month, depending on the contract, (e.g. the July or September issue) on Silver. When trading weeklies, traders should look at September on the charts. When trading dailies or intra-days up until Thursday at 6 PM ET, traders should look at the July contract on charts. Note the contract month is right in the name of the contract on the trade ticket.

For the times when the indicative doesn’t show on Nadex tickets, Apex Investing has an indicator called Clarity Price and it uses the same formula as Nadex for the Indicative on futures. It uses the last 25 trades and then averages the middle 15 for futures.

Traders can also change the variables if they want, such as longer price or smaller, larger average, etc. However, for traders who want a clarity price that is similar or the same and often faster than the Nadex Indicative price, they should use Clarity Price on their charts. The indicator is provided in the Apex Toolkit for P3 and Elite members. Traders can also set up a market analyzer to keep an eye on the clarity price of each market.

The Clarity Price allows traders to filter out some of the noise in ticks. Traders can just setup the market analyzer in the Ninja Trader platform and add the Apex Clarity Price indicator. With the default settings, it matches the Nadex Indicative on the futures. (It updates even faster than the web platform indicative price.) However, forex uses a different formula and the indicator is currently under development. For futures and rollovers, this is a great way to keep an eye on the "indicative prices".
