The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has initiated an investigation into approximately 241,000 Ford Motor Co‘s F EcoSport vehicles due to reported engine failures.
What Happened: This decision comes after the Office of Defects Investigation received 95 complaints from drivers.
According to these complaints, drivers experienced a warning light indicating low engine oil pressure, followed by a complete or partial loss of engine power in the model year 2018-2021 EcoSport vehicles. The suspected cause is a malfunctioning engine oil pump assembly, necessitating engine replacement.
The investigation’s primary goal is to assess the severity of the issue and determine any potential safety risks.
Why It Matters: Notably, earlier this month, the NHTSA also launched an inquiry into a prior Ford recall from 2018, which addressed a similar loss of engine power. This recall affected approximately 1.3 million model year 2012-2018 Ford Focus vehicles.
