US Navy Tempts Pilots With $105K Incentive To Lead As Commanding Officers

The U.S. Navy is incentivizing naval aviators with a $105,000 bonus to remain in service and ascend to senior officer roles, reports Military.com.

A recent administrative message revealed that pilots, who are commanders in rank and eligible to lead a squadron, could receive $105,000 if they commit to an additional three years of service. This bonus is $5,000 more than what was previously offered.

Additionally, a two-year service commitment option with a $35,000 bonus has been introduced. Officers opting for the three-year bonus will have a 22-year service obligation, while the two-year bonus comes with a 21-year commitment.

The Navy’s objective is to retain “highly talented, hard-working naval aviators and naval flight officers, screened for aviation command” and preserve their “invaluable and irreplaceable skill sets and leadership.” Historically, the Navy has faced challenges in retaining pilots in sufficient numbers.
