President Joe Biden is the Democratic frontrunner to win the presidential nomination for his party in the 2024 election.
Biden's win could set up a rematch against Donald Trump, his opponent in the 2020 presidential election.

What Happened: Biden's 2024 campaign will get a boost to start the year with the president highlighting dark moments in American history, including the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, to illustrate the importance of the upcoming election.
Biden will travel to the Valley Forge, Pennsylvania area on Saturday, Jan. 6. The location marks the area where George Washington and the Continental Army spent the winter over 250 years ago during the Revolutionary War.
As reported by the Associated Press, Biden will decry the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol that happened three years ago. The president is expected to note that the attack was led by supporters of former President Trump in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, which Biden won.
On Monday, Jan. 8, Biden will visit Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina. The site was the location of a shooting that left nine people dead in a white supremacist attack in June 2015.
Biden is expected to use the locations and their histories to illustrate the high stakes of the 2024 election and the belief that Trump is a threat to the founding principles of America.
"We are running a campaign like the fate of our democracy depends on it, because it does," Biden reelection campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez told reporters.

Why It's Important: The anniversary of the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol comes at a time that the dark day in American history is top of mind for voters and most Americans, thanks to the impact it could have on the 2024 election.
Trump was removed from the election ballot in Colorado and Maine, at least temporarily, in a move related to the Jan. 6 events.
Several states have sought to remove Trump from the 2024 election ballot, citing the 14th Amendment and its insurrection clause. Several parties have argued that Trump's actions supported the insurrection.
Speaking publicly after the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that Trump would be removed from the state ballot, Biden said there was "no question" that Trump supported the insurrection.
"Whether the 14th Amendment applies or not, we'll let the court make that decision," Biden said at the time.
"But he certainly supported an insurrection. There's no question about it. None. Zero. And he seems to be doubling down on it."
Trump faces 91 criminal charges related to multiple felony cases, including those related to the 2020 election.
The latest campaign efforts from Biden could mark a stark contrast to his 2020 election campaign that promised to bridge the divide between the political parties. Biden's campaign now looks to appeal to undecided voters and push the notion that Trump returning to office would be bad for the country.
"The leading candidate of a major party in the United States is running for president so that he can systematically dismantle and destroy our democracy," Biden Campaign Communications Director Michael Tyler told reporters.
January could mark a busy month on the campaign for Biden, who is expected to also launch events around the Jan. 22 anniversary of Roe v. Wade. The landmark Supreme Court decision legalized abortion nationwide before being overturned in June 2022. Abortion continues to be a major election issue for both parties.
The battle between Trump and Biden has been close in most election polls, with Trump leading Biden in Morning Consult polls for two straight weeks with a narrow two-point margin. Trump was also recently found to be leading Biden in the seven key swing states for the 2024 election.
