TikTok Scraps Creator Fund Program Amid Mounting Criticism By Influencers

TikTok’s initiative to financially support its influencers is coming to an end. This marks a significant shift in the social media giant’s approach to content creator compensation.

TikTok’s Creator Fund, which was originally promoted as a $1 billion payout opportunity for content creators, will cease operation in December, reported Business Insider.

TikTok announced that the intention to refine the platform’s user experience and introduce more monetization possibilities for creators. The Creator Fund was set up to remunerate creators based on video views.

The fund, however, came under fire from notable influencers. Figures like Hank Green and MrBeast lambasted the fund for its insufficient payouts, with Green disclosing that the fund’s compensation was as little as pennies for every thousand views.

Victoria Paris, a recognized influencer, indicated that she made slightly over $40,000 in 2021 from the fund, but that brand deals are her main source of income. She now favors TikTok’s newer Creativity Program, which incentivizes longer videos, as it enables her to earn around $10,000 monthly from views alone.

Content creator Shawn Owens, who has a following of 70,000, voiced his discontent, remarking that the Creator Fund did not aid micro-influencers like him and that he “never made any substantial money” from it.
