Zuckerberg To Musk: Is It All Talk — Or Will You Walk The Cage Walk?

Zinger Key Points
  • Mark Zuckerberg posts sparring pictures suggesting he’s fight-ready now.
  • Elon Musk alludes to a non-UFC event in Rome, while Zuckerberg hints at possible UFC collaboration.

Two of the tech world’s most prominent figures, Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, seem to be headed for a physical showdown… maybe.

What began as a lighthearted challenge escalated into a potential cage fight that's generating worldwide attention.

Developments on Friday hint at Zuckerberg perhaps questioning Musk’s credibility, namely in actually getting in a cage.

It all started innocently enough.

In June, Musk agreed to a suggested a cage fight with Zuckerberg on X, formerly known as Twitter, which is owned by Musk. Zuckerberg didn’t hold back responding on Instagram — which is part of his Meta Platforms empire — with a succinct “send me location.”

The tussle intensified on July 5, when Zuckerberg rolled out Threads, which is strikingly similar to X. With both platforms garnering user attention, their owners seem to be using the new ventures as platforms to fuel their rivalry.

Since then, the idea of the two billionaires locking horns has reportedly evolved into serious training and preparations.

Mismatched Narratives, Who's Telling The Truth? Musk’s Friday update on X laid out details of the upcoming fight: location, charities benefitting from it, and even his health status after a recent MRI scan.

Notably, he mentioned the event would be managed by both his and Zuckerberg’s foundations, explicitly excluding Endeavor Group Holdings Inc.’s EDR UFC as a potential host.

"Everything in camera frame will be ancient Rome, so nothing modern at all," Musk said. "I spoke to the PM of Italy and Minister of Culture. They have agreed on an epic location."

Zuckerberg’s counter a few hours later on Threads took a seemingly contrasting stance.

While expressing enthusiasm for the match, he hinted that Musk hadn’t cemented any specific date and emphasized the possibility of collaborating with professional organizations like UFC or ONE.

He even posted a picture of a sparring session of his own, perhaps subtly indicating his readiness as opposed to Musk, who, according to his own admission, would require a few months of recovery before a fight can take place.

"I’ve been ready to fight since the day Elon challenged me," Zuckerberg said, "If he ever agrees on an actual date, you’ll hear it from me."
