ATN International Inc was incorporated in Delaware in 1987 and began trading publicly in 1991 as Atlantic Tele-Network Inc. The Company changed its name from Atlantic Tele-Network Inc, to ATN International Inc. It provides telecommunications services to rural, niche and other under-served markets and geographies in the United States, Bermuda and the Caribbean and owns and operates solar power systems in select locations in the United States. The Company through its subsidiaries provides both wireless and wireline connectivity to residential and business customers, including a range of mobile wireless solutions, local exchange services and broadband internet services; provides distributed solar electric power to corporate, utility and municipal customers and is the owner and operator of terrestrial and submarine fiber optic transport systems in the United States and the Caribbean, respectively. The Company competes with wireless service providers that operate networks in its markets and offer wholesale roaming services, and Digicel, which is a large mobile telecommunications company in the Caribbean region, and in some markets, against the wireless division of the incumbent telephone companies. The Company's telecommunications operations are subject to extensive governmental regulation in each of the jurisdictions in which it provides services.
