Mark Zuckerberg net worth history looks less like a straight climb and more like a stress test, swinging from $1.5 billion at age 23 to an estimated $222 billion at 41, with several steep drops along the way.
The run starts at Harvard, where Zuckerberg enrolled in 2002 at 18 and launched Facebook from his dorm room in February 2004 at 19. He made the annual global billionaires ranking for the first time in 2008, worth about $1.5 billion at 23, which made him the youngest self-made billionaire in the world at the time. He slipped off the list in 2009, then came back at 25 with roughly $4 billion.
Private funding rounds lifted his stake to about $13.5 billion at 26 and $17.5 billion at 27, right before Facebook went public in May 2012. A shaky first year as a public company cut that to $13.3 billion at 28. As the stock recovered, his fortune grew to $28.5 billion at 29, $33.4 billion at 30, $44.6 billion at 31 and about $56 billion at 32.
He reached roughly $71 billion at 33 before sliding to $62.3 billion at 34 and $54.7 billion at 35, a reading taken in March 2020 as pandemic fears hit markets. His wealth then jumped to $97 billion at 36, only to fall to $67.3 billion at 37 and $64.4 billion at 38 as the newly renamed Meta Platforms lost ground during its costly metaverse push.
The comeback was dramatic. After layoffs and deep cost cuts, his estimated fortune surged to $177 billion at 39, $216 billion at 40 and about $222 billion at 41 on the annual list measured March 1, 2026. That is roughly 148 times his first billionaire appearance, and more than three times what he was worth at 38.
For investors, the takeaway is that Zuckerberg's wealth is mostly a mirror of Meta stock, since he owns about 13% of the company. Meta closed at $720.89 on Oct. 8, 2026, about a month after launching its Muse personal AI agent on Sept. 8. Whether heavy AI spending pays off the way the cost-cutting era did could decide where the next number on this chart lands.
