<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Screening For Bargains On Black Friday</h2>
Since American retailers traditionally offer deals on the day after Thanksgiving (&#8220;Black Friday&#8221;), it seemed fitting to see if the stock market was offering any too. The main metric I used to screen for deals was Chartmill&#8217;s overall valuation rating. I used that, because it incorporates several measures of valuation, including Price/Earnings (P/E), Forward P/E, Price/Book, and PEG (P/E divided growth rate). 
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Setting Up The Screen&nbsp;</h2>
To make sure I wasn&#8217;t picking up a bunch of &#8220;cheap for a reason&#8221; stocks, I added a few other technical and fundamental metrics to the screen:

<li>Has options.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Valuation rating &gt;=7.&nbsp;</li>
<li>Technical rating &gt;=6</li>
<li>Set-up rating &gt;=6</li>
<li>Growth rating &gt;=6</li>
<li>Profitability rating &gt;=6</li>
<li><a href="https://www.investopedia.com/terms/p/piotroski-score.asp" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Piotroski F-Score</a> >=8</li>
</ul>
The technical and valuation ratings are self-explanatory; the set-up rating measures the short-term consolidation of share prices. Each of those ratings is on a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 being best; the Piotroski F-Score is on a scale from 0 to 9, with 9 being best.&nbsp;
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Results&nbsp;</h2>
That screen yielded these four names:&nbsp;

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Are These Stocks Worth Buying Now?&nbsp;</h2>
Maybe, but they&#8217;re probably not the best stocks to buy now. The best stocks typically aren&#8217;t cheap. In <a href="https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2024-11-20/post-just-saved-us-money-nvidia" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">a recent post</a> (&#8220;The Post That Just Saved Us Money On Nvidia&#8221;), I mentioned that I&#8217;d consider placing a bullish options trade on Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVDA#NASDAQ">NVDA</a>) again when it had a valuation rating of 6. I didn&#8217;t say a valuation rating of 7, because as long as the AI story continues, I don&#8217;t expect Nvidia to trade that cheaply. It may not even trade at a valuation rating of 6 in the near future, outside of a major market correction. Maybe it&#8217;s not worth waiting for one.

Occasionally, we see some inexpensive stocks on that list (valuation ratings of 7 or so), but this week. The average valuation rating of the stocks in Wednesday&#8217;s top ten was 2.7. The overall top name,&nbsp;Tesla, Inc.&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/TSLA#NASDAQ">TSLA</a>), had a valuation rating of 4.&nbsp;

The robots aren&#8217;t for sale to the general public yet, so they don&#8217;t appear in any of the metrics that comprise Tesla&#8217;s valuation rating. But Tesla CEO Elon Musk says they&#8217;ll be the most popular product in the world. If he&#8217;s right, Tesla shares will be worth a lot more in the future.&nbsp;
Deciding whether Elon is likely to be right about those robots may turn out to be a more profitable exercise for investors than crunching valuation numbers. Our system defers to the wisdom of crowds on that&#8211;the crowd of stock investors, and the crowd of options traders. (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/T#NYSE">T</a>) shares are trading higher after the company updated its 2024 guidance and<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/24/12/n42285941/at-t-outlines-strategic-plan-to-drive-sustainable-growth-and-enhanced-shareholder-returns" rel="noreferrer noopener"> disclosed its long-term strategy</a>.
Strategy Update: AT&amp;T is modernizing its 5G wireless network, aiming to complete the transition to open, high-capacity technology by 2027. The network, with deep mid-band 5G spectrum, will cover over 300 million people by the end of 2026.
In broadband, AT&amp;T is expanding its already largest fiber network in the U.S., planning to reach over 50 million locations by 2029.
At the same time, the company is working to exit its legacy copper network operations across most of its wireline footprint by the end of 2029.
2024 Guidance: The company now sees adjusted EPS of $2.20 &#8211; $2.25&nbsp;&nbsp;compared to the street view of $2.21<a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/24/10/41485572/at-t-q3-earnings-strong-postpaid-phone-adds-adj-ebitda-growth-4-4b-impairment-charge-and-more" rel="noreferrer noopener"> (vs. prior outlook of $2.15 &#8211; $2.25)</a>.

Moreover, the company projects adjusted EBITDA growth in the 3% range, capital investment at the high-end of the&nbsp;$21 billion&nbsp;to&nbsp;$22 billion&nbsp;range, and free cash flow <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance" rel="noreferrer noopener">in the&nbsp;$17 billion &#8211;&nbsp;$18 billion&nbsp;range in FY24</a>.
This includes an expected adjusted equity in net income from DIRECTV of approximately&nbsp;$0.30&nbsp;per share post-tax. When excluding this, the company expects adjusted EPS of&nbsp;$1.90&nbsp;&#8211; $1.95.

AT&amp;T plans $22 billion in annual capital investment from 2025-2027, with free cash flow (excluding DIRECTV) reaching $16 billion in 2025, growing by $1 billion annually to over $18 billion by 2027.
The company sees adjusted EPS (excluding DIRECTV) of $1.97-$2.07 in 2025 (vs. estimate of 2.24), with double-digit growth by 2027.
The company expects to achieve cost savings of $3 billion and free cash flow of over $18 billion by 2027.
AT&amp;T&#8217;s plan includes $10 billion in additional flexibility for strategic investments, debt reduction, or further capital returns.
Buyback &amp; Dividend: The Board has authorized an initial $10 billion for share repurchases, set to begin once the net leverage target is reached and complete by 2026.
The company expects another $10 billion in repurchases in 2027, pending Board approval.

AT&T Revises 2024 Guidance, Targets $22 Billion Annual Capital Investment Through 2027 & More

President-elect Donald Trump's aggressive tariff proposal—25% on imports from Canada and Mexico—could wreak havoc on North America's economies. Goldman Sachs predicts losses for Canada and Mexico, surging consumer prices, and a <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/econ-s">slowdown in U.S. growth.</a>
In a note shared on Monday, Goldman Sachs economists, including Joseph Briggs, estimate that Canada and Mexico could see their gross domestic product shrink by as much as 4% under Trump's full 25% tariff proposal, while U.S. GDP could contract by 0.4%
&#8220;A large increase in tariffs on North American imports would entail significant economic costs, particularly for Canada and Mexico,&#8221; the economists said.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Canada And Mexico Face The Hardest Hit</h3>
The economic fallout of Trump's proposal could be catastrophic for America's closest trading partners. 
Goldman Sachs estimates that every 10-percentage-point increase in tariffs between the U.S. and its North American neighbors would cut GDP by roughly 1.5% in Canada and 2% in Mexico. Under the full 25% tariff scenario, the damage would grow to over 2.5% for Canada and 3.5% for Mexico.
The economists also warned of inflationary risks: A 25% tariff hike could raise consumer prices in Canada and Mexico by more than 2%. 
This comes as both nations are already grappling with high inflation, leaving central banks with fewer tools to soften the blow.
<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Ripple Effects On The US Economy</h3>
The tariffs aren't painless for the U.S. either. Goldman's &#8220;tariff rules of thumb&#8221; suggest that every 1 percentage point increase in the effective U.S. tariff rate raises core personal consumption expenditures prices—the Fed&#8217;s favorite inflation gauge—by 0.1% and shaves 0.05% off GDP.
Trump's North American tariff plan would increase the U.S. tariff rate by 7.3 percentage points, translating to a 0.7% bump in core PCE prices and a 0.4% GDP decline.
Trade policy uncertainty is already weighing on U.S. businesses.
&#8220;Anecdotal reports suggest that the threat of U.S. tariffs is already leading companies to reevaluate expansion plans in Mexico and Canada,&#8221; said the economists. Delayed investment and supply chain disruptions could exacerbate the economic drag.
The U.S. auto industry is particularly exposed to the risk of higher tariffs on Mexico and Canada. Shares of General Motors Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/GM#NYSE">GM</a>) have fallen by 9% since Trump&#8217;s announcement to raise tariffs on both countries.

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">From Trade Boost to Trade Bust?</h3>
Free trade agreements like NAFTA and the USMCA have historically boosted North American economies. Goldman estimates these agreements raised GDP by 1.5% in Canada, 2.6% in Mexico, and 0.5% in the U.S. Reversing those gains with aggressive tariffs would erase decades of progress and impose lasting damage.
&#8220;These estimates serve as a reminder of the sizable economic and market risks associated with Trump's trade proposals,&#8221; the investment bank wrote. 
Currency markets are already bracing for turbulence. Goldman's FX team believes the tariff threats will force markets to &#8220;embed a more lasting, and broader, tariff premium,&#8221; potentially weakening the Canadian dollar and Mexican peso against the U.S. dollar.

The battle for the multibillion-dollar obesity market just got fiercer. Amgen Inc's (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/AMGN#NASDAQ">AMGN</a>) new drug candidate, MariTide, reported promising results, helping patients <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/weight-loss-drugs">shed around 20%</a> of their body weight.
But when up against the current titans — Eli Lilly And Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/LLY#NYSE">LLY</a>) and Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/NVO#NYSE">NVO</a>) — "promising" may not cut it.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Weight Loss: A Tough Market For Newcomers</h2>
Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk's drugs, Zepbound and Wegovy, aren't just treatments—they're juggernauts. Amgen's MariTide enters the fray with a unique antibody-peptide mechanism, which could offer less frequent dosing and potentially fewer rebounds in weight. Yet, with side effects like nausea and vomiting in 70% of patients, it's a tough sell in a market where first impressions matter.

As Nicholas Anderson of Thornburg Investment Management <a href="https://www.livemint.com/companies/eli-lilly-and-novo-nordisk-s-obesity-moat-just-got-stronger-11733036578455.html">points</a> out, "A 20% weight loss would have been best-in-class a few years ago. But Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly have drugs in the pipeline that could meet or exceed 25% weight loss." 
Worse for Amgen, MariTide is still in phase 2, while Lilly and Novo's next-generation drugs are nearly ready for market.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Pfizer-Merck Parallel</h2>
Pharma history suggests dominance isn't guaranteed—Merck &amp; Co Inc's (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/MRK#NYSE">MRK</a>) statin Mevacor paved the way in the 1980s but was eventually outpaced by Pfizer Inc's (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PFE#NYSE">PFE</a>) Lipitor. 
However, with obesity drugs, the first movers seem poised to stay on top. Despite Amgen's potential 10% market share, it's hard to see MariTide displacing the leaders in what some are calling "the greatest pharmaceutical bonanza of all time."
<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A Big Market, Even For The Underdogs</h2>
Amgen doesn't need to dethrone Lilly and Novo to win. Even a small slice of the projected $100 billion market is lucrative. MariTide's once-monthly injection offers manufacturing efficiencies and cardiovascular perks, as noted by BMO Capital Markets analyst Evan Seigerman.
For now, Amgen may only nibble at the obesity market pie, but the stakes are massive. Whether it's a scrappy upstart or a next-gen titan, one thing is certain—the weight-loss wars are just getting started.
