Vice President Kamala Harris continues to lead over Donald Trump with two months to go until the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/2024-election">2024 presidential election</a>.
What Happened: Harris continues to see leads in head-to-head polls and in <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/politics/24/08/40566146/trump-in-trouble-vice-president-harris-leads-betting-odds-for-2024-election-heres-how-swing-stat">the betting odds</a> for the 2024 election in her matchup against former President Trump.
A new Morning Consult <a href="https://pro.morningconsult.com/trackers/2024-presidential-election-polling?utm_source=briefing&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=washington_am&amp;utm_content=090624">poll</a> of likely voters shows Harris' lead dropping and Trump gaining support two months ahead of the election.
The new poll shows the following results from voters, with the results from the Aug. 27 poll in parentheses. The previous poll included all voters and not just likely voters.

The poll found that 93% of Democrats backed Harris as their top pick, up one percentage point from last week's poll. The poll also found that 91% of Republicans backed Trump as their top pick, up two percentage points from last week's poll.
Independent voters selected the following as their head-to-head preference, with the results from the <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/politics/24/08/40590715/harris-vs-trump-no-democratic-national-convention-bump-for-vice-president-rfk-jr-suspension-fail">Aug. 27 poll </a>in parentheses:

Along with leading all voters and Independent voters, Harris also has the edge in the 18-34 aged voters demographic leading 50% to 45%.

Why It's Important: The new 2024 election poll of likely voters might show one of the better illustrations of what could happen in November. Both candidates receive higher totals with less undecided voters factored in.
The bad news for Harris is her lead among all voters and younger voters declined from last week. Harris' lead for the independent voters grew to six percentage points, up from a four-point percentage lead previously.
Harris continues to rank ahead of Trump in the weekly head-to-head poll, maintaining a lead each week since the head-to-head update in the poll took place with Biden stepping down in the 2024 election race.
Another key figure for the 2024 election poll is how it compares to the stage in the 2020 election. With two months to go before the 2020 election, Joe Biden led Trump by eight percentage points among likely voters 51% to 43%.
Biden went on to win the popular vote in the 2020 election 51.3% to 46.9%. The nearly four-point winning margin was around half of what the poll two months before the election was predicting. Trump outperformed many election polls in both the 2016 and 2020 elections.
The three-point lead for Harris over Trump comes after Morning Consult recently released a&nbsp;<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/politics/24/07/40086590/harris-vs-trump-vice-president-has-passed-former-president-in-swing-states-could-biden-stepping-" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">swing state voter poll</a>&nbsp;that found the vice president leading 48% to 47% overall in seven key states.&nbsp;The vice president was leading Trump in four of the seven swing states (Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, Wisconsin), tied in one (Georgia) and trailing in two (North Carolina, Pennsylvania).
This marks one of the final polls ahead of the first presidential debate between Harris and Trump set for Sept. 10.

Harris has long championed making higher education more accessible and affordable. As a U.S. senator, she co-sponsored the College for All Act of 2017, which proposed eliminating tuition at public community colleges and offering free tuition to public four-year colleges for families earning less than $125,000 annually.&nbsp;
Though the proposal didn't pass, Harris continues to champion similar initiatives. Harris' Push For Free College Vs. Trump's Focus On Workforce Training: Which Is Right For America?

The first day of trading in Benzinga's paper trading contest powered by TradeZero is less than one week away. Contestants have the chance to win over $30,000 in cash and prizes during the competition.
Here's how you can take home your share of cash and prizes and get a tour of the world-famous New York Stock Exchange.

Each investor will have around one month across three separate contests to generate the highest profits from a starting balance of $100,000 in a simulated trading account.
TradeZero CEO Daniel Pipitone said the company is excited to partner with Benzinga and show traders the cool features that TradeZero has available.
"The thing that I'm most excited about is getting folks exposure to the platforms that I'm really proud of," Pipitone told Benzinga.
In the direct trading space, few firms have their own technology, Pipitone said. 
"I'm really excited to get people exposure."
Contestants in the World Championship of Trading will have access to Benzinga's Live Squawk, which Pipitone said is a nice value add.
Investors will also gain exposure to TradeZero's newly patented short selling tools.

This technology can give investors an edge and is a key differentiator for TradeZero, Pipitone said, adding he is "very proud of the product and the platform."

Contest Rules: The contest is open to residents of the United States and Canada who are 21 years of age or older.
Traders will be able to buy simulated equities and options from U.S. markets during the contest periods starting with a balance of $100,000. No fractional shares will be allowed and no single trade can be above $10,000 when placed. Traders have to hold a minimum of one stock or option throughout the duration of the contest. A minimum of five days of one trade or more have to be completed throughout each contest.
Interested investors have been able to <a href="https://benzingapartners.go2cloud.org/aff_c?offer_id=467&amp;aff_id=1" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">sign up to join</a> the contest since Friday, July 26. Signing up for the first contest will automatically register an entry in the second and third contests. Traders can sign up for the contests after the start dates as long as it is before a cutoff deadline.

And when it comes to Berkshire Hathaway, he's perfectly comfortable with concentrating investments in just a few stellar businesses. "I could pick out three of our businesses, and I would be very happy if they were the only businesses we owned and I had all my money in Berkshire," he added.
Then Charlie Munger, <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/personal-finance/24/07/39988155/charlie-munger-said-the-point-of-getting-rich-is-so-you-dont-have-to-get-along-with-other-people">never one to shy away from a blunt opinion</a>, chimed in. He didn't just challenge modern financial theories; he flat-out dismissed them. That said, the District Is now expected to act on &#8220;gray area&#8221; I-71 shops. Earlier this year, the D.C. Council approved an emergency measure to give city officials the authority to impose penalties on unlicensed marijuana gifting shops not operating under <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/01/36597430/new-emergency-law-empowers-authorities-to-crack-down-on-cannabis-gifting-shops-in-d-c">the city&#8217;s medical cannabis program.</a> Since then, &nbsp;some have decided to go legit. The Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration (ABCA) published a list of businesses shortly, looking to transition from D.C.&#8217;s I-71 gifting market to legal medical dispensaries. Out of 76 submitted applications, a total of 26 D.C. unlicensed retailers have been awarded placards, including 12 social equity <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/cannabis/24/02/37220237/dcs-weed-gifting-goes-legit-nebraskans-want-medical-marijuana-legalized-and-more-cannabis-regs">applicants and 14 standard applicants.</a>
Five legal dispensaries went out of business in the past two years, according to Grace Hyde, a director at District Cannabis and co-chair of the Regulated Cannabis Association of DC. One of the reasons are higher prices of products sold in licensed shops, as the product is regulated and sourced from D.C. cultivators.
Hyde urged Mayor Muriel Bowser to tackle the issue of the I-71 shops. &#8220;I would say the industry has — without enforcement — 60 days before we start to collapse,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Our business has not broken even in any single month in 2024.&#8221;
