Many dream of touching the clouds, but Sai Kiran Meda has made a career of shaping them. Over eight years, he has worked on cloud services platforms and turned development and operations (DevOps) into an art form, proving that in tech, the sky is not the limit—it is the playground.
A Career of Continuous Improvement
Sai Meda's career in the cloud services industry showcases his dedication to excellence. As the engineering manager at an employer-sponsored prepaid legal insurance program, he has led the company's cloud infrastructure and security practices since September 2023.
"Nowadays, adapting is essential," says Sai Meda. "At my job, we have concentrated on creating resilient, scalable cloud architectures that can meet the changing needs of our clients while upholding the highest standards of security."
Under Sai Meda's guidance, his company has achieved remarkable milestones. Migrating to a multi-region, active-active cloud architecture has been one of the most important accomplishments. This migration contributed to greater operational flexibility and helped position the prepaid legal insurance program to better manage growing workloads.
Advancing Security in the Cloud
Security has always been a top priority in the cloud industry, and Sai Meda's contributions in this area have been particularly noteworthy. He spearheaded the implementation of zero-trust security frameworks, which have changed his company's strategy for data protection.
"Implementing end-to-end encryption and robust access controls across our services was a turning point," Meda explains. He added that this initiative was about protecting data and creating an environment of trust that allowed them to make progress confidently.
Automation As The Driver of Efficiency
One of Meda's most impactful contributions has been in the automation field. Through integrating continuous integration and continuous delivery/deployment (CI/CD) pipelines with automated testing frameworks, he and his team report a significant reduction—around 60%—in the time spent on manual testing.
"Automation should drive consistency and reliability. After automating our testing processes, we sped up our release cycles and significantly improved the quality of our deployments," Sai Meda shares.
This focus on automation has been a constant throughout Sai Meda's career. From May 2021 to August 2023, during his tenure as Tech Lead of Platform Engineering at a well-known online live marketplace, he designed and implemented cloud services and solutions. His expertise in DevOps, site reliability engineering (SRE), and cloud architecture played a key role in supporting the company's efforts to strengthen its operational systems.
Optimizing Cloud Infrastructure
From February 2019 to May 2021, Sai Media was the principal cloud engineer at another company, managing cloud governance by developing thorough cloud reference architectures and design documents. "This laid the foundation for more efficient and cost-effective cloud solutions," he recalls.
Improving deployment pipelines was another area of focus in this role. By using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, and Octopus, Sai Meda reports that his team was able to reduce deployment times from around 30 minutes to 5 minutes, helping the company respond more efficiently to changing market needs.
Connecting Development and Operations
Sai Meda's proficiency in DevOps has also been a defining feature of his career. From June 2018 to February 2019, he standardized development and production environments as a DevOps engineer at an electronics multinational conglomerate.
"The secret to effective DevOps is creating a smooth connection between development and operations," he states. His build and release management work using CI/CD tools like Jenkins changed the company's software development lifecycle.
Moreover, Sai Meda's experience with Kubernetes and Helm packages showed his ability to work with advanced container orchestration technologies, further cementing his reputation as a rising star in the tech industry.
Cloud services continue to advance, and professionals like Sai Meda will play an increasingly important role in shaping the industry's future. His journey from a DevOps engineer to a manager spearheading cloud developments proves the growth and importance of the cloud in today's digital economy.
"The cloud enables businesses to achieve more," Sai Meda concludes. "I am excited about the possibilities that new technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) will bring to cloud services. We aim to continue improving what is possible, always with an eye on progress."
If history has taught people anything about technological progress, it is that today's developments become tomorrow's necessities. When it comes to cloud services, Sai Meda's work exemplifies this principle.
If the past eight years of Sai Meda's career are any indication, the future of cloud services is bound to be both secure and efficient. While the average user might not see the intricate work behind their cloud experience, professionals like Sai Meda guarantee that people's digital lives remain uncluttered by the technology that supports them.
