On Easter Sunday, President Donald Trump posted a bold message on Truth Social that quickly sparked reactions online.
“The golden rule of negotiating and success: he who has the gold makes the rules. Thank you!” Trump wrote in all caps.
The post, doubling down on a wealth-equals-power message, didn't sit well with Anthony Scaramucci, the former White House communications director who has become one of
Trump's most vocal critics.

Scaramucci: Power Alone Isn't the Answer
Responding Monday on X, Scaramucci fired back: “Actually throughout history that strategy has always ended in tears. Better to share resources and compromise. It's called teamwork.”
The exchange is just the latest in a series of warnings Scaramucci has made about Trump's style and policies, especially on trade.
Earlier this month, he predicted serious global pushback against Trump's tariff strategy, saying it could ultimately backfire.
“It will break him,” Scaramucci said on “The Rest is Politics” podcast. “Unless you’re telling me the U.S. system is going to collapse because of one orange human being, then okay, but I’m for breaking him, because he is perversely bad for the system.”

Scaramucci argued that foreign nations, like China and Canada, are responding to Trump's tariffs by imposing their own and waiting for the pressure to fracture Trump's support from within. He believes that even some Republicans may be pushed toward working with Democrats to avoid economic fallout.
China Pushes Back
China has also issued strong warnings in response to Trump's aggressive trade moves. Officials in Beijing said they will retaliate against countries that strike deals with the U.S. that harm China’s interests. This comes as the trade war between the world's two largest economies threatens to involve more nations.
Reports suggest the Trump administration has been pressuring allies to limit trade with China in exchange for exemptions from U.S. tariffs. Talks have already begun with several trading partners. A Japanese delegation visited Washington last week, and South Korea is expected to begin negotiations on Wednesday.
Since returning to the White House in January, Trump has imposed steep tariffs on Chinese imports. Other countries have also faced new levies under his administration's revived trade war agenda.

A Republican Split?
Scaramucci sees a possible split within the Republican Party, similar to what happened with the Whigs in the 1850s.
On California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s podcast earlier this month, Scaramucci said that “the new Whig party is the MAGA party, which has the Republican name—in name only.”
He said some Trump-aligned politicians might start backing away as midterm elections approach.
Whether his warnings will come true remains to be seen, but Scaramucci has made it known he believes Trump's trade war rhetoric and power-first messaging could result in real political and economic damage.
