Sneak Peek Into Instagram's New Features For Content Creators: Updated Filters, Increase In Reels Plays, Undo-Redo Options And More

Meta Platforms Inc.’s Instagram announced that it is testing a bunch of new tools for creators on its platform this week to enhance how users create and share their content. This includes new photo filters, editing, and deeper insights into performance metrics.

One of them is the filters for feed photos. In a short reel, Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, said, “It’s been a long time since we have updated the filters for Feed Photos. So we’re adding new filters with cool and warm modes for each.”

Some of the new filters include “Fade,” “Fade Warm,” “Fade Cool,” “Simple,” “Simple Warm,” “Simple Cool,” “Gritty,” “Midnight,” “Lo-res,” “Wavy,” etc.

Chris Welch, in his review of the new tools for The Verge, said that iOS users might have access to almost 25 of these filters.

“Instagram is clearly trying to extend the range of its filters so you won't need to go elsewhere for the edits you're trying to achieve,” said Welch.

For those who like to post reels and short videos, there are new improvements coming in for editing tools. Creators will be able to zoom, rotate, and crop individual clips in their reels. Instagram is also working on the undo and redo features, which will be rolled out soon.

Moreover, 10 new text-to-speech voices in English, such as “Megaphone,” “Monster,” and “Radio,” will be available for creators in select countries.

One of the highlights of the updates is a new perspective on Reels Plays. While Instagram currently shows the number of times a reel has been played initially, the new update will add the replays to the count. This means that creators may see an uptick in their Reels Plays.

“It is an industry standard and an oversight on our part,” said Mosseri while explaining the update in his Instagram reel.

Over the coming months, Instagram also plans to roll out the ability for creators to see how many people are watching their Reel on a moment-by-moment basis using an interactive Retention Chart.

Other additional updates include renaming drafts, advanced scheduling reels, previews of drafts, and creating custom stickers from photos and videos in camera roll based on Meta’s Segment Anything AI model.
