China's XPeng Takes On Tesla's Optimus With Bipedal Robot — And The Internet Already Wants A Machine Fight

Chinese EV maker XPeng Inc XPEV showcased its bipedal robot at its fifth annual Tech Day held in Guangzhou on Tuesday.

The Optimus Rival: “From our next-generation flying cars to humanoid robots, we are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of technology and spearheading future mobility. We aim to extend our reach to encompass a wider range of travel scenarios,” CEO He Xiaopeng said.

XPeng also shared a picture of the robot with Xiaopeng on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. The bi-pedal robot bears certain resemblances to EV giant Tesla Inc’s humanoid robot Optimus and yet has stark differences.

While the Optimus seems sleek and tall, the XPeng bot appears shorter with a face that largely resembles Apple Inc.’s Vision Pro headgear in shape.

“In the future, XPENG will apply technologies from Smart EVs like XNet deep neural network, XEEA, XGPT, etc., to smart robots,” the company said.

“This needs to fight Tesla Bot,” an X user commented.

Other Reveals: The EV maker also unveiled the exterior of the XPeng X9- a starship-inspired 7-seater MPV which drew significant interest for its interesting exterior design at the event.

XPeng also launched a feature called the AI Valet Driver which will enable the vehicle to save oft-frequented routes after the driver drives through it once to achieve advanced assisted driving on the way.
