GOP Presidential Hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy Protests Gotion's Battery Plant Alleging Ties to China's Communist Party

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy on Wednesday rallied against Gotion Inc’s Michigan battery plant alleging its allegiance to the Chinese communist party.

What Happened: “We can't depend on our enemy for our way of life. Gotion: China-owned, US taxpayer-funded battery maker in Michigan pledges allegiance to the CCP,” Ramaswamy wrote, while also accusing democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer of aiding the project. “Shut it down: stop this plant now.”

Ramaswamy went on to join a protest rally in Big Rapids, Michigan, against the plant.

“Co-dependent relationships do not end well. The only question is who ends it first. Time to declare independence from Communist China. Hell NO to the Gotion battery plant,” he wrote in another post.

Why It Matters: Ramaswamy’s rally was against Gotion’s plan to build a $2.4 billion EV battery factory on about 270 acres of land in Michigan. However, the Republican rally against the plant is not new.

Gotion is a unit of a Chinese company. Benzinga has reached out to Gotion regarding the allegations, who did not respond as at the time of publishing.
