Previously, industry sources indicated that Huawei’s 5G smartphones could start shipping around the end of 2023, with the earliest launch date being October, the report stated, citing Chinese media.

Meanwhile, Qualcomm’s management has clarified that the company has not received authorization to supply 5G chips to Huawei, suggesting they have no choice but to become self-sufficient.

The tech giant is reportedly partnering with SMIC to develop chips, as external procurement is not feasible.

The report noted that if Huawei overcomes supply chain challenges and re-enters the 5G smartphone market, the strategic impact could be more significant than selling millions of 5G smartphones.
