'Got To Fund Mara Somehow:' Elon Musk's Uncorrectable Typo On X Spurs Confusion And Laughter

Elon Musk, the head honcho of SpaceX, recently had a little slip-up on X.com that elicited some banter and chuckles.

What Happened: While discussing SpaceX’s financial success, Musk wrote “Mara” instead of Mars, sparking some online buzz and amusement.

“Got to fund Mara somehow,” he wrote.

The typo didn’t go unnoticed, and people had fun with it.

“Mara is Mars' evil twin,” said one user, while another suggested an edit button for replies on X, previously known as Twitter.

A few even linked the typo to Marathon Digital Holdings, a Bitcoin-focused company with the stock ticker “MARA.”

“Please add a feature to edit replies @elonmusk @ehikian!!” said another X user.

“Wait I thought we were funding Mars. Is Mara a new planet,” said another.

While X allows Pro users to edit tweets with conditions, replies or polls cannot be edited.

Why It Matters: Musk’s grand vision is to expand human presence beyond Earth. The Starship is the centerpiece of this vision — a versatile spacecraft designed to transport people and cargo to various destinations, including the Moon and Mars, with the added perk of being reusable.

Earlier this month, SpaceX conducted the static fire test on the Starship Super Heavy Booster 9, where it fired up its 33 Raptor engines while staying put on the launchpad. Four of the engines shut down prematurely during the test.

SpaceX conducted the first test launch of Starship on April 20. The rocket exploded in less than four minutes after take-off.

But Musk is optimistic about the future. He estimates a 60% chance that the next flight will achieve Earth orbit, assuming they nail the separation of spacecraft components. This anticipated second test flight could occur in just a few weeks.
