Trump's Niece Joins Call To Jail Ex-President As She Compares Him To 'Criminals' Like Nixon Who 'Betrayed American People'

Zinger Key Points
  • Pardoning Trump will go against the words "Equal Justice Under law" that are carved in the pediment of the Supreme Court, says columnist.
  • Mary Trump branded her uncle and former president Richard Nixon as criminals who is allowed to walk away scot-free.

As Donald Trump faces his fourth indictment, Mary Trump, the ex-president's niece, voiced her support for a call for his incarceration if found guilty.

What Happened: Mary Trump on Tuesday shared a Daily Beast story by contributor David Rothkopf in which he makes a strong case for the jailing of Donald Trump if he is convicted.

“Surely, on some level, he feels he can (as he has throughout his life) avoid responsibility for his actions simply by retreating behind a wall of lawyers and dubious legal tactics,” Rothkopf, who produces podcasts, including Deep State Media said.

Donald Trump's plan could be to delay justice until he can take office again and pardon himself, at least on the federal charges, he said.

No One Above Law: If Donald Trump goes unpunished just like former President Richard Nixon received a pardon on the grounds that a sitting president cannot be charged with a crime, then it would be tantamount to striking down the words “Equal Justice Under Law” that are carved into the pediment of the Supreme Court, said Rothkopf.

This would create a defense that anyone running for office can no longer be prosecuted and a defense for anyone ever convicted of any of the myriad crimes for which Trump might be ultimately convicted, he added.

Siding with him, Mary Trump said, “It’s become something of a truism in America that the only way for the country to ‘heal’ or ‘move forward’ is to allow criminals like Richard Nixon and Donald Trump — who betrayed the American people — to go unpunished.”

“@djrothkopf sets us straight,” she added.

In the aftermath of the Fulton Country District Court indictment, the psychologist said the case will now likely drive the timeline for the other cases. The case feels different, pivotal, and more real than the previous three indictments, she said.
