North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un’s 10-year daughter is not enrolled in an official education facility but is being homeschooled. She also reportedly enjoys skiing, swimming, and horseback riding in her spare time.

What Happened: Intelligence, originating from the South Korean government, indicates that Kim Ju Ae has an elder brother and a younger sibling whose gender has yet to be revealed, reported Associated Press.

South Korea’s National Intelligence Service said that Kim is still too young and healthy to appoint a successor, according to the report, which cited lawmaker Yoo Sang-bum who was briefed by the agency in a closed-door parliamentary session.

NIS reportedly said that Kim’s daughter is “very good at horseback riding” and her father is satisfied with that.

Kim and his daughter participated in a Pyongyang military parade last month, which featured white horses — a symbol associated with the Kim dynasty. 

Why It Matters: Since North Korea was founded in 1948, the country has been exclusively ruled by male family members of the Kim family.

In November, Kim revealed Kim Ju Ae to the world during a missile test. Images showed the father-daughter duo holding hands at the time.

There is growing speculation that Kim is preparing his daughter to succeed him as she has been included in several recent public appearances since the missile launch.

A number of experts have said that Kim Ju Ae is her father’s successor as state media have labeled her “most beloved” or “respected” child and published images showing her close relationship with the North Korean leader, according to the Press.
