Britons Look On Bright Side As Lord Buckethead Boasts Best Bid Yet

Election night in Great Britain may have been a lousy experience for Prime Minister Theresa May, but it was a big night for occasional candidate Lord Buckethead, an intergalactic space lord with a groovy manifesto, baby.

“249! A new Buckethead record! Something to celebrate, eh?” Lord Buckethead, head of the Gremloids Party, wrote on Twitter Inc TWTR.

Buckethead ran in May’s own Maidenhead constituency and picked up his biggest total since taking on Prime Minister Margaret “Iron Lady” Thatcher in 1987, when he garnered 131 votes.

His campaign slogan? “Strong, not entirely stable, leadership.”

Theresa May Stands By Bucketheaded Rival

“Prime Minister Theresa May speaks while her electoral rival Lord Buckethead looks on. Truly, democracy is a beautiful thing,” tweeted CNN reporter Nathan McDermott in a photo of the Maidenhead candidates (he’s the one with the tall bucket head).

British media have claimed for years not to know the name of this mysterious chap, who must be smiling today.

While May’s Conservatives lost a slew of seats and may have to hammer out a fragile coalition Northern Island unionist party, it was a good day all around for various parties and candidates that sound like the titles of missing tracks from "Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band."

Seriously: Elmo, Mr. Fishfinger, The Dog Lover’s Party, The Monster Raving Looney Party.

What Gremloids Stand For

The Gremloids are based on an obscure 1984 movie of the same name, a parody of “Star Wars” featuring a Vaderesque villain that inspired the seemingly nicer Buckethead, who stands for:

  • Brexit: Hold a second referendum on whether a third referendum should be held.
  • Legalization of the hunting of fox-hunters.
  • New voting age limit of 16, with a ceiling of 80 years old.
  • Free bikes for everyone.
  • Stop selling arms to Saudi Arabia; start buying lasers from Lord Buckethead.
