HBO Teams Up With Oscar Winners Adam McKay And Kathryn Bigelow On New Dramas

HBO (Time Warner Inc TWX) needs new dramas — it is just that simple.

And now the network behind "Game of Thrones" and "True Detective" is teaming with two heavy-hitters with significant metal on their mantels.

HBO on Monday revealed it had signed deals with Oscar winners Adam McKay and Kathryn Bigelow for new pilots. The potential series "Succession" and "Mogadishu, Minnesota" are among the first for new network drama lead Casey Bloys.

McKay's "Succession" centers on the powerful but dysfunctional family behind a top media company while Bigelow's "Minnesota" explores a family of Somali decent living in the States. The pair are hoping to join the upcoming robots run-a-muck ensemble drama "Westworld" and the Amy Adams topped "Sharp Objects," which are already in HBO's pipeline.

HBO's latest new drama premiere "Vinyl" premiered in February, but didn't pull in large numbers; however, it was still renewed largely due to critical acclaim and strong reviews.
