Leaked iPad 5 Video Draws 450,000 Viewers

More than 450,000 people have viewed a five-and-a-half-minute video that claims to reveal key parts from the fifth-generation iPad. The video, which has appeared on MacRumors and PCMag, compares the body of the fourth-generation iPad with that of the iPad 5. Assuming the contents are accurate, the fifth-generation model should be lighter, thinner and narrower than its predecessor. Here are some quick facts from the YouTube clip, which can be seen in full below: Height
  • iPad 4 height: 241.2mm
  • iPad 5 height: 239.2mm
Width
  • iPad 4 width: 185.7mm
  • iPad 5 width: 169.5mm
Thickness
  • iPad 4 thickness: 9.4mm
  • iPad 5 thickness: 7.2mm
Weight
  • iPad 4 weight: 146 grams
  • iPad 5 weight: 92 grams
The video also points out that the iPad 5's speaker appears to be centered on the very bottom of the device, similar to the iPad Mini. Apple AAPL has also separated the audio control buttons with a thin divider in between. Related: iPad Mini 2 Rumor Roundup The iPad 5 will also supposedly have a microphone slot on the back. This might seem like an odd move for Apple (consumers are more likely to talk into the front of the device, not the back), but this could be used for greater audio quality when filming videos. As expected, the fifth-generation iPad appears to have rounded its edges, creating a smoother appearance versus last year's model. According to the narrator the video, this also makes it more comfortable to hold. It should be noted that this video originally surfaced on YouTube on September 6 -- four days before Apple unveiled the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. Now that the rumor mill has shifted its attention toward the next round of iPads, this video is receiving a lot more attention.
