Spirit Airlines To Pay $8.25M In 'Gotcha' Bag Fee Class Action: Report

Spirit Airlines Inc SAVE reportedly will pay up to $8.25 million to settle a lawsuit.

Passengers who booked via third-party services accused the airline of surprising them with unexpected carry-on bag fees, reported Reuters.

The passengers' attorneys presented the agreement in a court motion, seeking approval and stating it was a "fair compromise."

The lawsuit claimed Spirit advertised low prices on travel sites while hiding substantial airport bag fees, which could sometimes exceed ticket costs.

The qualifying passengers are to receive up to 75% of fees back, within the $8.25 million limit, including legal fees.

The eligible group covers first-time Spirit fliers who used booking platforms between August 2011 and May 2017.

Price Action: SAVE shares are trading higher by 0.64% at $15.71 on the last check Friday.
