According to blockchain investigator @ZachXBT, the hacker initially made away with over $147,000, which later surged to $691,000.

Buterin has not yet commented on the incident. The exact number of users duped by this hack remains unclear.
Why It Matters: Last week a research paper by Buterin proposed enhancing trustworthiness and transparency in the cryptocurrency market. Despite proposing measures to weed out malicious crypto traders, Buterin’s own X, formerly Twitter, account fell prey to a security breach.
